I heard that wholesale sports is selling out all their mach 2 ammo and said that they're no longer supplying any as the price will be going up alot very soon and they will be very hard to get. Any truth to the rumour that it's being dropped and it will only be a .17HMR world out there?

I don't know if it's true but it wouldn't surprise me if it were. I personally think that it's kind of a dumb round..but we really don't need to go into it :D

Say What?

Ever shot a 17 HM-2?

It's a fun little round !!!! I actually prefer it to the 17HMR (I used to have).

The Mach-2 is great for small game hunting (understanding it's limitations - just like you're not going to hunt grizzlies with a 22 Hornet!!!!)

It's also a SUPER choice for target shooting. It's very accurate and it leaves the barrel more quickly than a 22lr so it hits (closer to) where you're aimed when you pull the trigger.

The Remington ammo is made by Eley and it's very consistent good stuff.

It will be a sad day if the 17 HM-2 is ever discontinued.

HM2 is a good round, the problem being the solution was hmr. HMR was the answer to an expensive, not so accurate round (22mag). 22lr is cheap. People will go with hmr before HM2.

I own an HMR and have always been interested in the M2 as well. Problem is, that a box of M2 is $9 and HMR is $13 so niether is exactly a plinking round, I'd rather pay the extra $4 for HMR and go back down to .22 at +/- $2.00 a box for plinking. IIIIIIf the M2 were to get down to around $3-$4 per box, I would take a look at one, but I dont think it ever will without more demand and mass production. And I doubt there will be a huge demand until the price comes down. Catch 22.

I've seen the M2 rifles on sale in a few places and was wondering if it was being phased out.

Bumped thread b/c of this question - how to convert a Cooey to the .17 Mach 2? Is it just barrel liner and reaming the chamber....or...?

I know, probably should ask this in the gunsmithing forum...

my my my

always speculation form someone with just a few posts,

I just bought 40K rounds of mach 2 from texass and a fellow who wrote the book on rimfire ammo found out they just finished running or producing 40 million rounds at eley in elgland,

some of the manufactures are slimming the herd but the round is not dead,

cheaper than 17 hmr (and yes i have both and ammo for each)

each is fun for gophers so just buy it and buy some ammo,

before spring when prices go up

I am a big fan of the 17 mach2. I just wish more people saw what this round can do. I have the marlin 717 and it was the best investment i could have ever done for my gunsafe. This round allowed me to make a lot of 150-200 yard kills last spring. I have trouble doing that with a 22lr.

It does look like a very excellent gopher chambering, but as has been already pointed out you can't reload it very easily. If I had a .17 Mach 2 I'd stock up on ammo - there does seems to be a lot of .17 m2 rifles on sale and no buyers...

We heard that Eley bought up the manufacturing euipment for Mach 2 ammo. This caliber never sold well and most of our guns took a long time to sell. Most firearms manufacturere dropped this caliber for the above reasons. Phil.

I love my stainless Marlin in 17M2. It is a quiet killer around the ranch. I particularly like it on crows. I have not had any trouble finding ammo as of yet. Kids love it, no recoil and hits exactly where you aim.

Most people that have the .17 mach 2 like the round but it does seem to be scarce in my area. I've never seen it in the stores here. Lot's of HMR though.
I still need a round of .17 mach 2 for my cartridge collection.
I'd hate to risk spending a lot on one like an Anschutz 1702 in .17 mach 2

i was pickin up some ammo yesterday-the guy behind the counter said I was the first guy he ever heard say anything positive about the .17 m2...I dared him to try one compared to the .22 in his hand....!:sniper:
