Took the R55 to the range for the first time. Shot all of 5 rounds to get the scope sighted in then shot 10 rounds at the "sighter target" and 5 at each of the other three without trying (just aim and shoot, no focussing on breathing, trigger pull...). CCI standard at 25m. Not shoot any different at 50m. The black circle is a dime.

Reason for this post, just to piss of a buddy waiting for his R55 :)
(of course am still waiting 3 weeks for my bases to come to shoot my Remy R5)

Luftmech - would expect you to have similar accuracy with the classic - its a .22 so barrel harmonics or heating likely less of an issue. Most of the accuracy likely comes from build & materials, should be very little difference there (and am not exaggerating that basically just shot without any particular care - but maybe would do no better or worse if I did). The classic I believe also has the in stock storage for a magazine which the Benchmark doesn't :(

Epoxy7, some photos to tie you over till yours arrive. 5 round mag in the photo, 10 round comes out angled forward (if I get too impatient may pull the rings off and put them on the R5).

Very nice!!!.
I ordered some of the 5 rounders with mine too :D.

That is a quality looking semi auto. Fit/finish is definitely nicer looking than my Ruger which isn't too bad. We'll see how the TVP does, but it might get the EE treatment in a few months. The R-55 is a hard act to follow :D.

Good thing I had some more overtime today. Doesn't the title say "Rimfire, fun stuff that won't break your piggy bank...". I don't know this .22 addiction is getting expensive. :D That being said the R-55 is pretty good bang for the buck.

After today, it has me thinking whether I want to keep my CZ452 Lux but then it has beautiful tiger striped wood, pretty good open sights, nice action, is a fair bit lighter (okay fine, I'll keep it).

The R55 definitely has substance to it. Nicely free floated too. I got one 5 and a couple 10 rounders. Heard about action .22 and meaning to try that (and silhouette too - just too much work/studies), figure the 10 rounders appropriate to that.

Only thing I dont like about it is cant clean from chamber - yes I know its a rimfire but I like putting rifles away clean with a shiny bore (oiled with G96). Have a quality .20 cal one piece rod though and will just be careful.

That's funny. I have the same crummy cases. One of my rifles also has a trigger lock on it since I ran out of room in the safe :D.

I'll check into those cases we were talking about on Monday.

Nice quick release rings there. What type did you go with?

The rings are Leupolds QRW. Very beefy, four torx screws per ring, and also like how top ring wraps around tube - rings dont split at 180 degrees. Full width bar to fit weaver mount so not moving forward or back. Lever / clamp substantial, not seem to give up anything over tightening standard screw. Can also set levers once tight to any position you want.

i have thr R55 all weather target barrel. deadly accurate.
i had to modify the magazine to hold the bolt open on
last shot. i just ordered 5 fireing pins from t/c, $2.40 each.
the first one broke around 16,000 rnds. second one
5,000 rnds later. i shoot the copper plated DYNA POINTS
from walmart. the syn stock cheek peice is to low for scope use so i added a peice of ABS plastic pipe to raise the cheek peice for a good cheek weld.

Failure after 5,000 rounds, perhaps suggest that they replace that pin for free (try Gail - GLynch @ tcarms.com remove the spaces) as that should not happen. I received mine with lock and empty chamber indicator, one email and these were in the mail. Completely stripped a Cooey 64 this eve - wonder how many 1,000s and 1,000s of rounds that firing pin setoff.

The accuracy is impressive. I shot CCI Std as was curious how they would cycle, no issues. Generally I shoot the Fed 535 bulk packs.

i know it's lifetime warranty. u have to send the broken
one back and that cost u more than the price of the
pin and it vwill take 3 weeks to a month to get it.
this way here its actualy cheaper and faster and i will have spares. have u noticed shooting waxed coated bullets
that after your gun sets overnight the first shot or two
are flyers. that don,t happen with copper coated DYNAPOINTS.

Nice choice in rings Lineofsight.

I have a theory with things like broken firing pins, extractors etc. I use G96 on all of my firearms. Like Lineofsight I even season the barrel with it after it's been cleaned. I've wondered if some of the broken firing pins were due to brittle metal. Baring the odd manufacturer metal defect of course.

JB - am wondering whether there may be an issue with bolt face or something else that contributes to firing pin breakage, am not a smith so personally I would ask one - it may be a symptom of another issue.

now for the rest of the story. the second one is i made out of heavy log load banding which is 1.250 wide and
.084 thick. this was just the right thicknes and heat
treated steel. i think it's a bad design. it has real sharp
corners and offsets. of course it breaks in the sharp corner.
when i replace this one i will look and see if the sharp corner could be eliminated.

I just got a R55 Benchmark of the EE...

At the range for the first time today... and wow! I'm impressed...

This is a 10 round group at 25yds, with a rest... using Lapua SC

Now... can anyone tell me where I can find a weaver base for this thing?

EB

Am pleased with mine too, may even sell the CZ452 Lux (yes its a bolt gun with open sights, not the same but point is its not anymore accurate (think less actually) and reach for the T/C before the CZ).

Went with Weaver 411s, supposed the same as the T/C Weaver bases but the curvature smaller radius than receiver thus middle of base not touch.

Smith told me to tighten them down more and not worry about breaking the screw or stripping the T/C receiver, wont happen. Tightened as much as I was comfortable with and seem to work fine.

Another option to resolve the base curvature is to use bedding compound. I did this with my Weaver Base. End result was a perfect contour fit.

Just when I thought I was content with my rimfires...now I'm lusting after the R-55, again!
yes my R55 is acurate. the stock is the ####s when u mount
a scope. i added a ABS sewer pipe cheek peice for a better
cheek weld. i ordered 6 fiering pins from T/C. $2.40
each. no problem with the price. they are all to short.
the won,t answer my e-mails , i can,t get through by phone
i took a picture and sent it by snail mail with the problem.
these look like they came out of the reject bin.
that was a month ago. still no answer. needless to say,
i'm not impressed.
