I've been shopping for a .22 rifle. I like norinco, and like the norc tok and the norc 1911, and the norc airguns I've had or used. I found a guy who sells norc .22 bolt rifles, but he's been jerking me around, real slow communications, taking weeks to buy a gun.

So, I look on marstar again at their .22's

Nope.

Still "not in stock", all except the target rifle.

I've been looking on their site for a couple years now, and their norc rimfires are NEVER in stock.

What's up with that? Has anyone here ordered a norc rimfire? Is it worth the seemingly endless wait? Is there another place that stocks them?

Where else can I get a cheap but new .22 rimfire rifle with wood stock for a gift?

It's likely to get shot at least twice a year for ten or twenty rounds, at pop cans at 20 yards, so buying expensive quality isn't an issue.

Found, thanks guys!

IRONSIGHTS;
If you can recommend a manner in which I can get faster delivery from Norinco, please do so....I would welcome your suggestions.

Delivery from them varies from just a couple of months to as long as 18-24 months....

The Norinco .22s that I have seen are really crappy, both have the front sight installed crooked, not sitting at 12 o'clock, maybe 1 o'clock or so...really shoddy workmanship. Some of the stock inletting looks like it was done with a jack knife, a dull one. The russian made Win. Wildcat, looks much better beside it. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it!

They said they'd have these in the early part of 2009:

That said, it seems you have to order before they get items in supply...I'm not sure if you have to pay in advance too, though.

I know it doesn't have a wood stock, but SIR has Remington 597's with a scope included for $199. WSS has 597's with iron sights for $169.99. Really, a pretty attractive price for a decent gun that you can buy some aftermarket stuff for, including (for now) 30 round mags. Short of that, look in the EE; there are quite a few decent 22's there as well, and they do have wood stocks.

Norinco JW15A bolt

I bought this gun from Marstar about 2 years ago. It was in stock and shipped quickly. Generally I think it was a fair price. It's about the same accuracy as a stock 10/22 (in other words good enough for plinking but nothing to write home about. It had cheapo wood and finish and it's a bit picky with what ammo it will feed. Otherwise I've been happy with it.
It does have really nice solid mags.

If you want a 22 plinker this is a good choice. If you are looking for top quality and/or a sniper rig then this is not for you.

Would you mind explaining "it seems you have to order before they get items in supply...I'm not sure if you have to pay in advance too, though."

Or a Marlin. Great gun for the price!

Agreed. A Marlin 925 with really nice fit and finish as well as a wood stock is about $190. The geometry of the stock is quite good, too, better than most of the cheaper .22s. Its a best buy for a good quality .22 rf bolt action in my opinion.

John, 1st off, no offence was meant...I really like Marstar (esp. that buckshot deal), and appreciate what they try to do for us Canadian shooters.

I was trying to get at the idea that, once in stock, the Norc items @ Marstar seem to fly-off the shelves so fast that only the pre-ordered customers seem to get the timing right.

Also, I was expressing my "unsure-ity" about company policy - does money have to be paid upfront if a pre-ordering is done?

Thing is Cyclone, John has said many times that they rarely do pre orders because they look bad when things don't arrive on schedule or even at all.....
He probably should have mentioned that above but he thinks we all remember every post we've never read......
Instead of asking you to explain your post he could have probably just pointed out that you have been misinformed but that's not really John's style...:)

It's worth remembering that as mentioned in some other threads, Norinco is the export agency working for different firearms factories, so that the people making the Grizzly may not be the same group making the 1911s or the Sig clones or the rimfires.

The Russian-made Winchester Wildcat mentioned by ben hunchak sounds like the old ToZ-78. Epps still has those in stock for $249

Frontier's got the Savage Mark 1 and Mark 2 bolt-action .22s (single shot and magazine) for about the $220 mark

S'ok, no hard, no foul...I was under that b/c the M-305's seemed to be pre-ordered, most things were. It's very possible I was totally incorrect.

The Nork .22 Mauser copies (JW-22 I believe) were on for $99 at Xmas 07 and 08 thru Lever Arms. I bought one and unfortunately that's all they're worth. The sights were installed off-centre and the bolt took a long time to clear of cosmoline. I'll probably flog it sometime to someone who can do a sight job on it. But it has a nice trigger, oddly enough.
