Where do you guys find 303 suplus ammo

Most .303 shooters have been loading thier own for years. Surplus military ammo has dried up many moons ago.after all 60 years is too long to store ammo. All that is left is expensive store bought.

good luck

Gun shows if you are lucky, I havent seen any around my way yet. most of it has been shot already and if you do find any it tendt to be of somewhat dubious quality:pakistani stuff has a lot of hangfires and duds, but greek is as good as it gets.

if you do find some though, let us know!
Cheers, Aric

I'm still coasting on stuff I bought through US mail order places 12 or so years ago.
Unfortunately, the US will no longer allow us to export ammo out of the US privately.
And as noted above, almost all militaries have long since dumped their own stocks onto the surplus markets years ago.

Me to, I had about 600 rounds given to me along with a Savage Sporter a few years ago. I've only got about 100 left. They still shoot great. I think I'm going to save about 50.

Buy regular ammo (as Wendell says, it's found here and there), save your brass, start reloading... And once you're hooked watch the EE section for more used brass...

you mean these kind of things?

Remington UMC is new manufactured with 174gr FMJ, and you can find FMJ bullets for reloading - Hornady, at least, still lists them.

If you do happen to find any POF ( pakistani ordinance factory) ammo avoid it. Get some boxes that are fine and then you get some boxes that go click...bang, hangfires, and then don't even go off. Some of this could be due to conditions that the ammo was kept in.

i have been buying the odd box of old surplus from the local gun shop, i also by ingman 180gr soft point's and winchester bulk brass for reloading... bought 2 boxes of winchester gray box CXP 3 from crappy tire and found it to be a VERY hot load in my old rifle...

i have 2 boxes of hornady 174gr's on my bench infront of me purchased a month ago... one is 174gr FMJ/BT's for mil-shoot's and the other is 174gr RN Interlock's for anything that walk's god's green earth...

if you want a nice light load you can either try the sierra 150gr soft points under some H414 or you can use that cheap cheq 7.62x39 by pulling the bullets....

lots of tricks to turn an old war horse into a cheap to shoot plinker.

I have exnjoyed casting my own bullets for 303 with a LEE bullet mold, using gaz check or not and building best loads for lower velocity plinker ammo (around 1000fps)...get good results at 25, 50 and 100 meter ranges...a fun side of the shooting hobby!

Jacques I would be interested in hearing about your reduced loads. What size of bullet do you use? Any favourite loads that you care to share?:D
