I think it falls under the case of "... if you have to ask then... ".... :D

I shot a round through a 500 a few weeks back and got to shoot a cylinder of .44mag about two weeks before that. Whoever told you that it would reduce the kick to the same as a stock .44Mag was smoking some really good stuff!

It won't rip your hands from your wrists but it won't be far off that. The .50 has a "Presence" that the .44Mag just can't compete with.
 
that is a beautiful wheel gun. i have had the pleasure of seeing one in action once at the oshawa club. big flame, big boom and it looked like the guy was having a great time with it. he did have a decent scope on it and was smashing the backstops at 50 yards. congrats, i think you are going to love it more once you get it out.
try some range pictures for us when you get it there.
 
Where'd you get it? It'll be a while until I start buying the huge caliber revolvers... but I don't think I've seen anybody selling these, including its ammo.

...not to mention yours is very nice :).
 
pictures can not justifiy how big this revolver really is lol!
i just held one for the first time last week and it's huge! it's intimidating!

can't wait to try it, probably this week!
 
Shot one with 500gr reload at CTVSP. WOW!!! I am used to .44 and heavy 45Colt load, but this thing is almost like shooting a .12 gauge with one hand, but it is fun.Limit your full loads to 20 rounds and I think your body will thank you...LOL

You are probably right, you know how rumours fly about "GUNLORE" so many opinions. The worst is when people give their thoughts on things they have zero experience with, that said once I shoot this toy I will report. I already have a .44 and know how that shoots so I will compare with a few shooters and let you know.
 
Nice gun :) I picked up it's "little" the 460V before Christmas and have yet to hit the range :(

The X-Frames are huge revolvers but that's half the fun!

Please let us know how the range trip turns out.

I'll be very interested in your findings and impressions. If you shoot a .44 on a regular basis then you're far more familiar with a variety of .44 loads than my one lowly 6 shots makes me. One thing for sure though. The big hand cannon stuff sure is fun.

Not really. S&W sold a "Bear Defence/Survival Gun" kit, short barreled, in both 460 and 500. You don't really need the longer barrels to take advantage of the heavier bullets and higher energy levels of these cartridges. True, they'll go a bit faster in the longer barrels, but short barrels are just so much easier to tote. Plus, once you've played with 44 Mag snubbies and short barreled 475's, you need the next step up, lol. - dan
 
Welcome to the club! You might find that this gun is not for every trip you take to the range due to it's massive recoil. I've let lots of people try mine and I've noticed that everyone perceived its recoil differently. I find it hefty. I also have the S&W 460 and while you can shoot .460, 454 and 45C, the muzzle blast from the S&W 460 is a lot greater. I think the noise is about the same from both. I find I shoot my 460 more often then the 500 due to it's caliber flexibility, the looks of the short barrel and the fireworks display. Enjoy your 500 and if you haven't already, pick yourself up an electronic headset so that you can hear everyone's reaction to it at the range after you let loose with it :evil: That in itself is makes the 500 worth it!
 
for those times you just need to shoot a charging elephant,... lol

saw it on manswers and their special "recoil measuring tools" showed it to have less recoil than the .44mag
