Anyone heard about Shotgun Exploded during Trap at some Range in Ontario and Injuring other Shooters.
Was it Due to Reloaded Ammo or some other cause

havent heard anything about it, but my buddies shotgun popped in half the other day while we were duck hunting, no one got hurt..not even the duck. was pretty sour bout needin a new one

Ok well I was the guy that got his leg hurt in the accident in Kelowna. We were practiceing and the fella two posts away ( post 2, I was on post 4) shot and the reciever of his gun blew apart. The shot went downrange and the barrel in in tack. A piece of the side plate lodged into the back of my knee and almost came through the other side. It was sticking out but it didn't get all the way through.

First it was not a double charge and there was not anything in the barrel. Although we are still looking at one other possibilty everything is pointing to a faulty gun. I will let everyone know more once I know more.

I will be ok although it is kinda freaky.

Once I know more I will post something in the "trap shooting forum". I even had the surgeon take pictures of the hole in my leg before the surgery so I may post one of those for fun

Jacky ...

Sorry to hear you were hurt & heartend to know you're on the mend. Potentially, the injuries to all involved could have been much worse.

Anxious to know (and I'm sure I'm not alone... )
... what make & model gun ? Factory ammo ( which ) ... or reloads ?

It was a good reload no doubt about it. I don't think I should say what make of gun yet. We are still looking at another possible option as to why but when I know more I will post soemthing.

Holy crap Jacky.

I'm glad you weren't more seriously hurt, and wish you a speedy recovery.

We all have heard stories about the 'exploding gun', but it's usually a friend of a friend who heard a guy at his club talking about.......

I'm quite interested in the specs of the gun/ammo when they are available. I'm currently shooting a gun which has been subject to kaboom tendencies.

Brad.

I will let you know when I know more. The load itself has really been ruled out as the problem.

Hi jacky, Hope your leg is getting better. I had read on another forum that the gun was a Caesar Guerini, and the shooter was an off duty police officer. Is there any truth to that?

Well what site if you don't mind me asking ?? There isn't much truth to what you read really but I will post more when I can be open and honest about everything.

So it was not a Caesar Guerini, and the shooter was not an off duty police officer? Wonder how much reliability there is to the notion of the defective AAs and exploding K guns?

Just the facts mam! Just the fact! Joe Friday:D

PICS PICS PICS

I'd be interested to see your injury! Don't wanna sound morbid, but this is one story you won't forget and you'll be able to pass on your gained wisdom to many more!

Hope the leg heals fast.
I had a shotgun explode on the range about 10 years ago. I had loaned it to someone who was shooting reloads. The gunsmith that I took it to said it was a plugged barrel and that it was close to the forcing cones. He mentioned that when shooting hulls over and over that the base on the inside of the shell can come out and become stuck in the barrel. So here is the moral of my story,if you reload dont reload 2 piece hulls usually cheaper shells. Cut them open after you fire them and see if the base inside is one or two pieces.-cooner
