Hi Guys - did a search on this neat little rifle but only found a small post by Kevin B. It's a very interesting design that takes a proprietary round. It uses a 6x35mm round which is reportedly good to 300 meters and supposed to offer better lethality than the 9mm at short ranges(via fragmentation??). It is supposed to offer a true personal defensive weapon that is short and handy, while still being useful out to 300 meters. Stock extended it's only 28 inches long. It uses an interesting dual piston gas system.

I wonder about the 6x35mm rounds flash and sound signature, especially in confined spaces where a PDW would typically be used. I wonder is this will be offered in semi auto for civies? I know Knight is more aggressively targeting the civie market these days.

Now if they only made this little guy in 7.62x25:D:p

There was the H&K version of this concept in the EE...ready to buy!
Small gun....?4.7 MM high velocity round...great concept for drivers, pilots, etc..but very few 'takers' in the world's militaries for another weapon system and it's specific ammo.
The Knight's system offers nothing over the already fielded, and proven, FN 5.7 round and it's corresponding pistol and subgun.

Right now the only usergroup to have the PDW system is TSWG from USSOC. KAC is currently rebuilding one that they ran to hell and back (about 30k rounds). The system is not operational as far as I know in any deployed units yet.

It was designed as a Very Short Barrelled rifle - the 6x35 round was optimized to use 7-10" barrels and still be effective out to 300m.

It is NOT a pistol replacement - as most PDW's are seen to be. The round is multiple times more effective terminally from 0> and accuracy wise at distance than the Hk 4.6x30 and FN 5.7x28 both of which are pistol cartridges and offer about as much effectives as a .22LR other than armor penetration (still sub part to the 6x35 TSWG round)

Civilian sale of the PDW is extremely unlikely at this point - KAC has a policy of no SBR sales to civilians at this time. The only Short (sub 16") barrels made are on select fire weapons which are unfortunately not lawfuly for sale to individuals in the U.S.A. due to the horrible '86 provisions of the GCA.

When production slows on other contracts and some machine time is available, perhaps a semi-auto pistol version could be produced for civilian sale. This pistol version would likley be lawful for sale to Canada.

Seems like a lot of research and development for a very limited market. They've spent a lot of effort marketing the system it seems, there was a full spread on it in a recent magazine I picked up. Is there some internal U.S. Gov demand for this type of system or is it just wishful thinking on the part of KAC?

KAC does not do wishful thinking...

I disagree on the limited market, as it fills the bill for several niche systems.

1) It provides a low recoiling round, with armor penetrating capabilties, with terminal effects.
2) Short - and due to the folding stock easily stowed.
3) Versatile
4) Reliable

CAG/SFOD-D used to run the Sig552 for some roles. As BigRed can attest - we used the Sig552 (yes even us) for somethings, as it was an easy system to slip under a fleece - yet provides a lot more firepower than a handgun.

The are many areas where this sort of system can flourish.
Aircraft crew weapon
Non-Combat Arm soldiers
SOF
Law Enforcement
Security Details needed the option of a lower vis weapon system.

The big problems to both the FN and Hk round is that while they can defeat some armor - they really suck at after armor terminal effects on a human. In truth this is becasue they are a handgun capable round, the TSWG round however is not, as it was born out of the failures of the previous two cartidges.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to fit a BFG Redi-Mod to it ;)

Sweet Jebus! That is beautiful!!! Why must you temp us with things we can never have? Are you sure a few of these in semi-auto won't be able to make their way up to Canada? ;)

Discussion has been made of making a pistol - for us down here - you could then talk to ATF to SBR it, and then buy an aftermarket stock.

That could make it Canada exportable to civilians.

Muzzle brake is the Inconel Flash Hider muzzle brake - which is now called the "Triple Tap"

Barrels are dimpled for cooling, and reduction of weight. - and yes it patented

Oh, so that's what that MB is called. How well does that thing work and does it get gunked up easily? Wasn't quite sure how you would clean those thin slots.
