--- Try any of the building centres, they should be able to direct to a place, they might ever have some in stock, there is place, or was a place in Van; --- that had a kinds of Hard Woods, from all around the world, can,t remember the name right now Val, maybe a boatbuilder, furniture builder, someone like that, should be able to get you some, there should be some around down there !!

very good question S. if you recall i said in my sticky that i found alot of conflicting infos , this is one of them .

i had to make a decision of whether to believe , the russian went straight from solid birch to laminated or they tried other remedy first to the split grip problem, i choice to believe they tried the second crossbolt at the grip first and probably the results wasnt up to snuff so they intro the lam .

now that brings up another question , is there lam out there without a second crossbolt , i wouldnt be surprise, again , they may have tried it and that too wasnt satisfactory so at the end they ended up with a lam with a second crossbolt.

i recall seeing pics of a second crossbolt on a solid birch , i dont have a pic to prove it , they are not that common.

Thanks Curtton, Mine is suppose to be laminated. I will post pics and let you know if I have the second crossbolt.

Has any-one out there received a solid birch stock with a second crossbolt installed?

I'll assume Windsor Plywood is still in the lower mainland.... they should have birch that can be purchased.
 
So has anyone got a call from SIR yet?
It seems there are a lot of Russian SKS's floating around right now. I can't see what the hold up is.

I've been patient for a year now. I see all these great Russian peices making their way into other peoples gun lockers I know mine is just waiting out there somewhere.

Which will come first post #4000 or the SIR SKS's?

For the height adjustment, take an old flat screwdriver and cut a slot to fit over the sight to adjust up and down.

I cant seem to figure out where i put it.... but its more or less the same as this, except its a 2 inch

its not really the best, but I got it to move my sight over so that its more centered, than being jammed all the way to the right. (although I put a small scratch in the paint when I was taking the clamp off)

someone probably has something that would work a lot better (that isnt the proper tool)

They told me 2 to 3 weeks on Friday. Won't be holding my breath..........
 
Ohno, I got an email from SIR on saturday saying....

"Well we are expecting shipment to arrive with in 30 days or less, they were packing them for shipping from the supplier a week ago, that is what I know for now. Thanks."

so hopefully since there are tons of the rifles floating around that we will acutally get ours sometime this month or next

I have a small clamp like that, I was going to drill a hole in the one end slightly larger than the pin. Then cover the end with felt so it does not scratch.
 
sir shippment

I'm hearing some talk about shipments was there different shipments and how can you tell which one you SKS came from. Will it matter where you purchased the SKS from Ive seen some nice models and a few dogs so if any one has some info please post slipp

why bother ? dont tell me you cant afford $16+ship , a proper tool for your beautiful russian .

get your front sight tool from fabsport , its only $15.95 , it also does elevation too.
