Anyone know who has PTRDs for sale?

CS military does have I think 1 left they are a hard sell not so much because of the price but they are very big and you can't get ammo very easy .. they had about 20 I saw them when they first got them a few years back in the warehouse .I have ammo i just don't want to shoot mine it just sits on the floor with my other junk .I personally am very glad that Al and Fred keep CS military going they don't have to beleave me ...they do get some very interesting items from Europe stuff nobody else brings in .

I agree completely that they get great stuff in. I just think that they charge a rather large premium for stuff over competing dealers. Truth be told though, I've bought quite a lot of stuff from them over the years!

Anyhow, if I get no other offers before Monday, I'm buying one from them. :(

I'll hold you to that one day ;).

Just a question, i am not sure how rounds are made "dummy", but is it possible to extract the possibly re-usable brass, and give it a new primer + lead?

I only have one dummy in my collection, so I'm not going to hack it up. I did use it as a sample to turn a case from steel a while back.

The projectiles would not be tough. I can make pressing dies on my lathe to make the jackets. I was thinking of using copper pipe fittings, heat them cherry hot, then press them into shape. You could then use pieces of tool steel from hex wrenches to produce the tungsten core and pour lead around it inside the jacket. Gas check could be made of any copper or tin metal in the shape of a disk and then soldered to the bullet base.

Not that tough, really. And probably close to decent penetration performance.

Forming brass is also not impossible. Just machine some straight-walled cases from bras rod and then form the cases in reloading dies while hot. Might need several presses to get it down to size.

Dies can be had from CH4D, but expensive at $450 a set. Not sure if they fit a standard 50BMG press?

Anyhoo, it's all academic if I can't find someone to sell me a stupid frickin' ATR!!!

For the projos, I will simply use solid brass if surplus ball is not ever imported. (I've been bugging CanAm Chris for some time....;))
For the case, I did turn one from steel a while ago, I made the primer pocket to use 50BMG primers (CCI35). I popped one off to test it, now I have only 499 left!
I sent the case to CGN member Missing Something to do some testing and load development with.
I also made up a "case" that is a sleeve that holds a 28 gauge shell. I plan on making some blank loads.

I asked Art if its for sale (before he passed away) and he said.... "Yes, if you buy the store" ;)

The world is a lesser place without Art in it... :(

As for the big gun in the shop hanging above the stack of 7.62x39/SA.308 battle packs/7.62x54r etc etc... it has/had a for sale sign on it with a price typed in red ink. if i'm bored i will go for a drive to Vernon to confirm this... i need more of that .303 surplus ammo that does not exist anymore that they seem to always have in stock.

I have no idea if it breaks down or not? Either way, my back seats fold down... lol.

Now I need to talk someone into selling be a few rounds so I can actually try it...

If anyone has any ammo - even just one round of 14.5x114, pm me and we'll work something out :)

Claven

if your buying an anti tank gun at least get a real one.......

probably easier to get ammo for this one

slightly less portable through........

remove the wedge and the barrel comes off....

The PTRS (Simonov design) comes apart, the PTRD (Degtarov design) does not come apart like that. You can remove a few parts of the stock with a screwdriver, but it is more than popping a wedge out.
I'll post photos soon, when I find them.

Is this an exciting rifle to own, or does it wear off fast, and become a WTS ad soon?

Hmmm....no ammo (unless you roll your own!), is a live one any better than a dewat? I dunno?

A few years back, I drove out to Wolverine's on a whim to buy one of the PTRDs. Being an impulse buyer, and Wolverine a heck of a salesman, I ended up buying both a PTRD and a PTRS. Now the problem came in transporting them. As mentioned, the PTRS pops in half with the pull of a pin, however, fitting the PTRD into the Honda Accord was not so easy. With the seat folded down, it ran from the back of the trunk right to the shifter.

I parted with them when I bought the Boys rifle. But I can say that an anti tank rifle is both a hoot to shoot, and a neat curiosity taking up the floorspace of the gunroom. Ammo or no ammo, a couple thou for one is a bargain.

Sorry mate, but you're going to be out of luck on both counts. The PTRS is not for sale (discounting buying the whole shop, and even then maybe not) as if it were, there are a couple of guys who work at the shop who would buy it before anyone else would even have a chance to look at it, and Del's is also out of .303 surplus. He had about 10 of those 48 round boxes not that long ago but they all got scooped up right quick.

Fully agree about Art though. That was a sad day. The shop really isn't the same without him.

oh well i do remember seeing a sign on that PTRS with a price not so long ago... and they always seem to have more of that old .303 stuff every month or two... if its all dried up i wonder where its comeing from? lol... no matter they normaly have Hornady 174gr ball on the shelf anyway an its cheap!

What does shipping cost for a PTRD? Canada Post (too big - parcel?) or Courier?

Maybe they just lick an 8 cent stamp and put it on the gun!
