Thats right! I am not fishing for them I am bow hunting them. My buddy and I are going to try our luck at arrowing a carp or two in the spring. What I would like to know is some recipes for cooking them and some processing advice or tips. I am going to use a crossbow so any advice on that would be appreciated...TFN...
 
ive eaten a few carp under 14" and they werent too bad but i dont think its wise to eat the larger ones you will likely arrow. better off using the big ones for fertilizer or bear food ;)

No, seriously I can't knock it, I haven't tried it. I hear it's full of bones and it's a very "flaky" meat. The only way I could see it prepared would be smoking. (like sturgeon)

Carp are a huge food sourse in Asia.They are primarily vegetarians (could even be Liberals for all we know)and are quite tasty in cleaner waters (as opposed to muddy,silty water sheds),baked ,smoked or made into a fish chowder ,much like freshwater Drum.

I fished for carp all the time when I lived in Aussie, and also ate my share of them there and back in Hong Kong. Not the best tasting fish, but I wouldn't say it's "crap". It can be made palatable.
 
WE used to bowhunt white sucker at last mountain lake during the run in the spring. Often saw Carp swirling in the shallows. Under bridges and overpasses were the best. We used a bunch for catfood in the winter, but canned a bunch. When you can it, the vinegar breaks down the bones. With the right recipe, it tastes and resembles store bought tuna.

I was looking into taking out my crossbow for suckers about 5 years ago, and it still wasn't legal to use. Double check the fishing regs before you use it..........
 
If your going to bowhunt carp then get a strong line attached to your arrow and hang on, cause carp are very strong and they don't die easily, especially the big ones.

Most carp taste like mud and they're hard to scale and very slimey. But the British eat them and we all know how wonderful British food is.:D
 
Bow huntings too easy. Back when our fields used to flood everyear before they raised the dykes up we'd get a ton of carp that would get trapped in the fields becuase the water would go down and they couldnt escape. So when my dad was a young guy him and his friends would stand or walk through the water and use pitch forks and get a bunch. We dont see very many anymore but I'd love to try it that way someday. I'd say to tie a line on but it was already mentioned.

yuck i was swimming there and dove to avoid a sandal someone threw at me and felt something brush against me i came to the surface and everyone was laughing i turned around and theres this like 10 pound carp belly up that i had just swam into. EEEEEWWWWW!!!!!
 
I cant even touch a carp "omfg they reek" let alone even think about eating one. I am sure if I was starving to death and that was the only food I could have, then sure.. but to think about eating a bottom feeding stink fish is just... I just puked in my mouth a bit.
 
Mix a bunch of lemon & lime juice in with flour or fish crisp & egg for batter. Cornflakes work as well. a couple of shots of tequila, also heard dark rum works & slowly stir in brown sugar to taste. Slow cook in the oven for a couple of hours at 350-375 deg. F. While that is cooking, have a few shots yourself... Then after a few hours dig a hole by a small tree in the back yard and throw it in... If you stink up the house as much as I think it will, you might as well jump in too before the ol'lady gets home. Just start grabbing the dirt piled around your drunken hole and cover you & that rotting fish up before the dog gets wind of this & digs you up to roll in!!!:p
 
One good recipe that works for carp is to take a large pot
add about 1 Lt. of water + 1 teaspoons of salt
Place a couple carp fillets on the bottom and place a flat rock on top to hold them down under water.
Add extra seasoning and cook on med. heat for a few hrs

After they are well steamed remove from heat. Place flat rock on a plate
and take the pot with the carp and drain off the water.
Place the carp on the floor for the cat.
Add salt and pepper to the flat rock and eat the rock.
If rock is still to tough boil it without the carp for a few more minutes. :D
