Any tips on a line of holster equipment to get me started in ipsc, not a racing set but practical and competative at a good price available in canada?

FYI 1911's are no longer going to be competitive, with the magazine exception going to expire in a few months.. you won't be able to have 10 rounds like other pistols in the division.

I echo CKC123's comments on the competative DISadvantage to going with a 1911 platform.

That said there is a full kit set for sale in the accessories section for $250.

If a 1911 is all you have and you just want to play for fun then it is not a bad idea.

If however you do not have a gun then I would look elsewhere for a more effectivre platform.

A sad commentary; the pistol that started IPSC is no longer competitive. Why should that be??

Why is there a need for a box when the result may be achieved by limiting the number of rounds that may be loaded for standard??

Why do we not have a single stack division??

Why does production division not allow the two guns that have been in continuous production since the turn of the previous century.

Is it any wonder the Americans prefer their USPSA??

why don't you ask the IPSC administrative body who decides on such things.

why don't you draft a motion for the next IPSC world assembly to create such a division?

why make a statement when I can just ask questions?? ;););)

STI, SVI, Para's and the like are 1911's, are they not? I know they aren't single stacks, but Jstoon didn't say he had a single stack. Just because 140 mags won't be used in competitions anymore doesn't make the whole gun useless. I happen to shoot a CZ Tactical Sport (which never had 140 mags) and have found it to be very competitive against all 1911's, with or without 140 mags. I think 1911 shooters will find the biggest difference will be in their bank account, not their performance. :nest:

Despite what the naysayer are saying here, the 1911 is a fine gun to compete with, keep shooting it and enjoy. I picked up a Blackhawk CQC holster and mag pouches last year for $120, add a CR belt for $60 and for under $200 you have a complete set up.

And for the record, when someone new comes on here to ask about equipment and getting started, how about we try not to S**t all over the thread with endless political crap that is already dealt with on another thread and try to encourage new shooters, not scare them off.

that's disappointing to hear. i have a new dan wesson pointman seven on the way and hoped to be able to use it for some competion use and not just target. i'll have to see whats happening at my local club i guess. Any opinions on uncle mikes stuff to get me started?

I thought that's what we were all supposed to be doing ;)

See that word......."Just".

Do you understand the role it plays in that particular quote?

Oh I am all for that..........however I also think that we should try to save them time, money and frustration.

That is a nice looking gun......

You will have fun with it shooting in IPSC Standard division. However, you will be limited to 8 rounds where most other players (those not shooting single stacks) will be running 10 rounds. You just get to practice your relaods more!!

What club do you shoot at?

I agree, to disqualify standard production single stack 1911's which are a first choice for many old and new to the sport is a disgrace, if that is indeed what is happening. If that is the case, a single stack division should be created or like you said, allow 1911's in production class. i have a hard time believing the associaiton aims to alienate this entire platform from competition.

Perhaps, but they usually don't want to spend a pile of money just to try something out. Let them get hooked with what they have, then worry about what would be nice. Sooner or later we all spend the money anyways.
How about we get them started before we spend their money for them?

Often, a question is a statement and I am not referring rhetorical questions. :D

Apropos of nothing in particular: "A stupid person may ask a question that even the smartest person cannot answer". :dancingbanana:

The question has been asked by others and including me, "Why not have a Single Stack Division" like they have in the US. Shooting IPSC stages with a Single Stack is great fun.

Take Care

Jstoon, for the money you won't be disappointed with the Uncle Mikes Kydex.
The new paddle design allows a fair bit of adjustment for both height distance and tension and for less than $100 you can get the holster and two double mag pouches.
If you decide to upgrade down the road, you still have some good gear as backup if the expensive stuff breaks.
