Well I will admit off the start I am a remington guy through and through (own 6 right now) but after reading all the posts on savage and there accuracy I am a little dissapointed my first time out with one. I took a box of Remington Premier accutip-V 50gr ammo and got on paper at 100 yards. after getting on paper the best 5 shot group out of three i shot went 4 and a half inches at 100yards. every one of my remingtons shot the first box of factory ammo I picked up under 2 inches usually around 1 and a half sometimes smaller.

Conditions were good no wind and I re zeroed my .25-06 in a remington BDL varminter after taking it apart for cleaning and It shot a 2 and a half inch three shot group at 200 with factory federal 85gr BT.

I checked the scope mounts bases ect ect and I mounted the scope on the .25-06 just to see and it shot fine. So so far I am not buying the out of the box accuracy claim.

Now I am not giving up I am going to try some different kinds of ammo and different grain leads. I am also just waiting on some components and I will be reloading for this rifle aswell but for it's first time out it left me dissapointed.

I am hoping it just really didn't like that ammo.

Oh and trying to load that new internal center feed magazine with gloves and .223 ammo was not fun at all.

Depending on the twist in the barrel, the savage with a 1 in 9 dislikes the light ammo. My 2 savages with 1 in 9 shoot fantastic with 75 grain match ammo. The 55 grain FMJs i reloaded with previously spread out like pepper on the targets. So it could have to do with bullet weight.

All Savages shoot 0.250 or less 100 yard groups on the internet regardless of caliber and barrel weight.

Your results may vary......:puke:

Well I have faith it will shoot eventually with handloads I have never had a rifle shoot that bad with factory ammo ever in my life. My buddie with his 14.5" ar gave me a run for my money today

If it's a fast twist it may not like light bullets. My CZ (9") doesn't like anything lighter than 55 gr but shoots 69gr SMK's into one hole all day.

I seen on savages web site that it's 1-9 but I read a bunch of places that they still shot the lighter bullets good. Why the heck does savage put such a tight twist in a varmint rifle (FVSS) I want to shoot gophers with explosive 40gr not punch paper at 600 yards they have the Police line and target line for that.

savage ,stevens

Well my 200 stevens in 2506,with 100gr Barnes triple shocks will put 3 in under .9 all day long.bought the gun used with a cheep 6x24 banner for under 375.00...
Great rifle.
OH YA. i USED rELOADER 25 POWDER.

I am sure there are shooters out there and I am sure I can get this one to shoot with some work. Not sure what your post ment.

You didn't let it in the safe with your Remingtons did you? And you washed your hands after handling it I hope.

Nope :D Theres no room in the safe (all full of remingtons) its in the gun room in the gun vice with a trigger lock. I was wearing gloves so I didn't need to wash. Actually for what it cost me I think it's a nice gun I was just really dissapointed after all the hype I read on the internet. But Iam sure it will come around.

50 grain 25 cal bullet or 22 ?, you never did mention the cal on the Savage just the Remington. My experience with Savage/Stevens was good, The stevens .223 I had did very well with factory 55 grain ammunition, the groups only got bigger when the barrel got much hotter.

Either way I would try some heavier bullets.

Jayph, I've never owned a Savage/Stevens bolt action I was happy with. They don't fit me well for one thing, maybe that's why. I've never owned one that was consistantly accurate out of the box either.

The new Accutrigger mechanism is a joke in MOHO. I don't particularly like the actions either.

Savage/Stevens rifles can and do shoot well, for some people. If you don't like it or are haveing problems with it, get rid of it and get a Tikka, it will easily shoot on par or better than an out of the box Remington. I also own and like Remingtons.

Savage/Stevens rifles leave a bad taste in my mouth after I wash it out with soap.

I'm not suprised you're disappointed. None of us would be fans of Savage if our rifles shot that way.

If it continues to shoot very poorly after trying different ammo, take it back for exchange or refund. That's not acceptable. My savage .22 rimfire fvt with plastic stock and no accutrigger and chinese scope will shoot less than a four inch group at 100 yards with the cheap bulk winchester dynapoints, or american eagle. (not a boast, I tested all the cheap brands to find out which shot the best of the budget bulk packs).

Paying much more for a centerfire, and using good factory ammo should get you the excellent accuracy at a cheap price that us savage enthusiasts have come to expect.

Savage .223

My Savage, when checking out loads, did a cloverleaf at 100 yd. It will now shoot three shot groups with all touching. I have no complaints. It is deadly accurate out to 200 yd, (the farthest I have shot it). I use Hornady 55 gr.. karl

Good grief!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but try some different ammo.

Something with some longer bullets would be good, given the twist rate. Varmint Grenades, if you want gopher bullets. Reloads if you actually want some accuracy.

One box, of one kind of ammo, and it's no good? Perfect! I'll give you $100 shipped for the no good POS! :D

Cheers
Trev
