Neat posters, and judging by the persons toe and slippers in the picture they are pretty big posters.

Personally I'd prefer the Rifle. :D

I wouldn't mind importing one of the Semi's from the US! Aside from them being real expensive, you think the "anti's" got this labeled an illegal ak-variant?

I can see an RPK being an AK variant, but why would an RPD be considered an AK?
(Yes, I know, I'm looking for logic where there is none)

RPD is Degtyarev system. No relation to the AK family at all except the cartridge.

Good point!
Hmmm?

I see the Chinese version Type 56, Type 56-1 variant and Norinco models are mentioned on the list of Prohibs but no mention of the Russian RPD or Polish rkm D. Unless I misread the document.

(z.9) Type 56

Soooo does this mean one could import and register a semi auto version of the Russian or Polish version?

So who is going to try to import one and offer one for the RCMP testing? :)

Also don't forget to import the cleaning/tool kits with them. :D

Also how would one pin a belt fed mag?

It's not a really a mag but a dust cover/can for the belt feed system.

What a curious situation. :)

AFAIK the RPD was "invented" in '45, therefore there shouldn't be any need to try to limit the belts.

I have an ugly feeling that the DOS would object to these things being exported to Canada however.

I made a thread on this. First of all it was created in 1944, and so belts should be fine.

In fact its name is Ручной пулемёт Дегтярёва образца 1944 года. 1944 года. Year-1944. That should be clear.

Should is the word, but some "official" has "deemed" it post war.

Ручной пулемет Дегтярева (РПД) был разработан в 1944 году и стал одним из первых принятых на вооружение в СССР образцов под новый на тот момент патрон 7.62х39 мм.

As for the prohibited Chinese 56, there are several 56s, but on the ban list it refers to the Chinese AKM.

Well if anybody were up for scavenging parts and/or trying to restore a dewat? Wiselite Arms (they make guns for century arms, probably a more familiar name), they sell new-manufactured semi automatic rpd receivers. If an old parts kit exists anywhere here in canada, there is a home-builder semi automatic build out there!

Seriously though, whoever is responsible for classifying guns are retards. I read that some firearms were banned solely on their name, or something?

Besides, the rpd has that scary wood stock and foregrip, easily mistaken for an ak-variant by the common liberal :p. (Sorry, no offense, just had to throw that in)

Likely the US DoS will not allow export. belts should be OK because the year is well doc'd. The RPD is no longer in prod is the main issue, so getting a non-US co. to make one is difficult.

We could always get some thrifty Canucks working on a receiver making business. We could just swap in the appropriate parts and whoever takes charge of the project would have a nice little side line. Pending appropriate approvals and such of course.

Best of luck to anyone wishing to try, but I don't see it happening for a few guns a year.

Marstar's managed to import some pretty fine stuff so far, maybe we could get a bunch of people requesting the semi rpd's being made in the US and have them import a shipment?
