I am looking at picking up one of the two within the coming months. Anybody have expirience with both? Any opinions?

I like the durability, folding stock and the proprietary design of the AIAW, plus the 10 round mag is a nice bonus.

The Coyote seems to be dead nuts accurate (nearly twice that of any evidence I've seen of the AIAW), but the 8 round magazine is a little bit of a bummer for me. The rarity and "made in Canada" is a nice bonus however.

I have a couple AIs. My 308 shoots ragged holes all day long. Don't think you can call it half as accurate as the PGW but there seems to be alot of emotion attached to these types of judgement calls. My advice to you is to look at your wallet and when you want it. Prices and delivery might make the decision for you. If I could have only one rifle, I would be happy with either one. Ford vs chevy at the end of the day. I really like my AI, particularly for the interchangablity of parts (not that I have ever needed to) plus it is a production sniper rifle and my first rifle. Emotion aside...you will be well served by either...

+2.

I have the Coyote and the Timberwolf.

I hate thumbhole stocks. They hurt my thumb on recoil.

well my call was just based in evidence that I have seen, which still isn't much by any means. Certainly not first hand evidence. All the Coyote/Timberwolf targets I've seen have been around 0.25-0.3 MOA /5 shots, while the AW tagrets average around 0.5-1 MOA /5 shots.

If you could snap some pics of your AW targets you could make the decison for me much harder :D

I don't keep a photo album of my targets but this spring I can take some pics. 1 MOA for an AI....heck my match M14 does that, the AI is sub 1/2 MOA. I don't spend my time trying to make small holes at 100m, I spend my time doing long range, multiple positions, stress shooting etc. Practical based shooting I guess, rather than bench rest. If your looking for a bench rest gun...then again, there are other choices as well.

Look at availablity and price....thumbhole vs not, 10 rd mag vs 6. For the price, you can also get a number of supporting dealers to make you a custom gun that has all the features you want since you will specify everything. They will all shoot like a house on fire...

Don't get your nose bent out of shape regarding mag caps. The 'yote has AI 10rd'ers but the new 'yotes, so I've heard, are going to get 8 rd'ers.

For sure....if you need to be cranking out the rounds for a rate of fire....your not doing something right and need to look at a semi auto! Both rifles will serve you well.

I very much doubt either of those claims can be backed up consistently. Both rifles are considered extremely accurate. The reasons for differences in group sizes likely lie elsewhere (ammo, shooter, conditions, luck).

You can't lose with either pick, except in your wallet. Hate to say it but the same performance (and mag capacity) can be had far cheaper, if those are your two main criteria.

Well, I want to get a bolt action that I'd have and be happy with the rest of my life, so if that means less money for ammo in the short term, than I'll be happier in the long run if I got something that cost more and I liked. And lets' be honest here. The cheapest part of shooting if the gun itself.

What type of AI magazines does the Coyote use? The AW or the AICS? Is the change to a different magazine altogether or could you use an old 10 rounder on a new Coyote?

You probably can't go wrong with either, but you have to consider that the AIAW/M:
- let's you do a "self-service" barrel change
- has a folding stock
- has a removeable scope mount that doesn't lose zero
- tried and true, trusted by Armies/Police in:
Australia
Bangladesh
Belgium
Germany
India
Indonesia
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Macedonia
Malaysia
New Zealand :p
Norway
Netherlands
Poland
Portugal
Russia
Singapore
Sri Lanka
South Korea
Spain
Sweden
United Kingdom
United States

Wonder what Wolverine (official Canadian AI importer) and PGW will have to say about this thread :stirthepot2:
