It's official! Savage is my point man to coordinate the Calgary Hungry M14 Clinic for you prairie dudes! Boy am I ever happy to return out west to spread the M14 LOVE !

* Date: Saturday 06 June 2009
* Location: TSE The Shooting Edge

* Cost: $ 35
* Timings: 0900 start - Likely finish up around 1600 hrs

Material Covered:

- Tools for tweaking, tools to avoid, tools that are nice to have but expensive, tools that are overrated and too expensive
- Gadgets that are nice to have, need to have, and useless to have (but I had to buy it to show you)
- Tools that you can make yourself instead of buying, tools that you can have buddies (owe you favors) make up for you
- Stripping the boomstick (you will be surprised at what I can show you)
- Assembling the boomstick, and what to look for so that worthwhile tweaks can be or should be made
- Tweaks that work, tweaks that don't work, expensive tweaks so yer #### does not fall off
- Useless tweaks unless you have more money than shooting ability (many stories to follow at the clinic)
- Common pitfalls, expensive tweaks that work, more ways to ensure that yer #### don't fall off
- Lunch and then tweaking in the afternoon, shimming, pounding out more shims (all hands on activities)
- Lots of networking and socializing all the time. This is priceless (even if the $ 35 only covers my costs).

* Things to bring: your M14, some basic tools, notebook, pens, digital camera, rags, ball peen hammer, punches, screwdrivers, more punches, TIG Welder, Service Truck (vise for rebarreling), fired brass for us to measure, plastic or rubber mallet, wood block or 2, Black and Decker Workmate (clamping ability for your barreled action or stock), masking tape, duct tape, Loctite (blue and red stuff), more to follow as I remember or remind myself.

* Registration: PM (don't use email) me on the board. I'll send you payment instructions. You can choose EMT (electronic money transfer for you online banking fans) or Snail Mail cheques/buried cash. We'll just stick with the fee ! I will use this forum (right here ) to monitor the numbers and payment details. With your payment, ensure that you remind me of your CGN handle and what location the clinic is in since I'm running a clinic a month... these days.

Do I have to bring a tig welder? I don't have one, I have some basic tools and that's about it. I really want to be a part of this.

The tig welder is a joke (read: rub into Ontario M14's faces because welder rig service trucks abound in Alberta) from the Edmonton Sosa hosted, clinic last 08 Nov 2008. :D

Is there anyone from Edmonton going that I can Carpool with? The lease on my car expires in May and I won't have wheels that will make it to Calgary.

Anyone? I have to know quick so I can get registered.

Hats off to The Shooting Edge

I have talked to James P aka Redleg The Shooting Edge has graciously allowed us to use there facilities including some areas of the gunsmith shop IE Benches and Vises for the clinic

 Holy Shyte.... I posted this baby up at 2130 EST last evening. We have not got to 24 hrs YET and we've got 24 bodies lined up already.

Well, Savage is the returning guy! I'm going to cap things off at 30 bodies in order maintain quality and integrity of the clinic process. Then again, I'd better pump the Edmonton crowd up for another clinic....

Hungry I will have my barrel vise and action wrench on hand as well
Yes there is a Indoor Rifle range at The Shooting Edge .I will inquire about our usage

If anyone is interested in bedding their rifle at the clinic, I'd like to suggest we all chip in a few bucks and buy a 1lb tub of Devcon Titanium Putty (~$90) or Plastic Steel (~$65).

I'm in for that action!

I have three stocks to bed, all for the same action. Is it feasible to do all three in one day?

Also, have a Gas Cylinder unitization project.

Hungry - What does YODA have to say about accompishing all of these projects in one day?

Savage - Are the dancing girls still on?

We have to bed each barreled action overnight, so that means that action has to be bedded overnight 3 times....

Now about the Devcon (super expensive, more expensive if you don't compete in Savage's Service Rifle matches), it's a waste of expensive material for just a blaster rifle.

That's where the JB Weld is perfect because it's 10X cheaper and lots easier to work with. Wobbles99 in Edmonchuk will tell you that the JB Weld is a very good bedding material and will outlast your life....

Frankly, I suggest bedding with Devcon for projects as serious as say .... a Krieger barreled match / sniper rifle build. That's when you cannot afford to cut corners! For the rest of you moose gitters and bear defense blasters and zombie whackers, the stick with the JB Weld... that's what I use..

I only carry around the Devcon to show you all what it looks like. I hardly use it at all. No joking! And for serious Service Rifle (provincial and National levels) shooting, I just use my AR 16" midlength... soon to buy a Norinco M4 before my #### falls off. :D

Well put there Hungry

We have to bed each barreled action overnight

Sounds about right. I bedded my bolts some 15-20 years ago and recollect them being in the freezer for two days.

Does one unitize with the gas cylinder while it's on the barrel? This may affect the order of which my projects proceed.

Wobbles99 in Edmonchuk

"Wobbles99" was the name I was searching for:) His bedding disertation should be stickied! I now have a copy and will review the video as well.

JB Weld is a very good bedding material

I have used JB and like it. Spray on PAM as the release agent, of is there a paint on PAM?
