Portuguese Vegario

Kind of a new twist for me, but not every day you come across an excellent, matching numbers including bayonet, minty bore with correct sling. Ok it's not a real Mauser, but I think it's pretty slick.

Received my k98 early model bayonet from Marstar yesterday...

How are these bayonets by the way?
Marstar doesn't have any real info on their site about them.
Are they refurbed and reblued?
Do they have wartime makers marks?
Do they have matching scabbards?

The price seems alright, but I was afraid they'd just show up as Yugo bayonets with the ring ground off.

I know squat about K98 bayonets, but I'll try and take a few pictures a bit later.

My plans for a digital camera have been delayed, but I'll let you know what's on it.

Grips are early pattern wood and each sides matches well. Blade is not sharpened and bears few markings, "8409" with a "1" underneath are very very faintly visible with only parts of the numbers visible, on the other side there is S/15 (not sure on the 5 though but this leads me to believe it bears the factory code of a K98 bayonet), again very faint. Markings on the handle consist of a tiny crest with "157" below it located on the back part of the grip where your palm would rest on the metal sandwiched between the two grips. The only other marking is on one side of the pommel, "33511" but that is obscured by the rivets holding the pommel on.

I suspect it's a refurb of some sort, likely Yugo given Marstar's association with the area, and while it's probably not a significant collector's item it fits my East German refurb K98 just fine and that's really all I wanted.

When it rains it pours... two lithgow SMLE's this month, both from different sources, both still in the grease.

First is a 1941 FTR 1954 No.1MkIII*, second is a 1945 No.1MkIII*, non-FTR.

Should have taken pics first, but both are partially disassembled for cosmolene removal :)
