Where here it is. I've been reading a few threads on this site and others about some nice "high" end 1911"s for instance the Nighthawk Recon etc.
So given that these pistols are in the thousands of dollars, I need to get some opinions on whether to go for it or not.BTW I'm a lefty, so I don't know if that affects the old single stack 1911. Chime in troops!!!

get a norc and build on it

-1 Unless your a master gunsmith with lots of time you are not going to get near the same quality or tollerances from a Norinco. To compare a Norinco to a Kimber, Colt, S&W, Wilson Combat or what ever is just bogus in my books. Spend a few extra dollars if your looking for quality, shoot the two side by side and tell me to get a Norinco.

If your just looking for a pistol to go blasting with, a Norc will do. If you take shooting with any bit of seriousness where quality and reliability counts in competition or other means spend some cash for a good dependable platform. If plinking and making noise is your game and your on a tight budget then yes....buy a Norinco and enjoy...

Just my opinion here.

+1 on the norc. WAY cheaper than most. Spend a few hundred on upgrades and you will have a pistol that compete and surpass any high end pistol for WAY less.........

IMHO, no 1911 is worthy of around $3000. If I was carrying daily I'd maybe change my tune, but then again if I was carrying, I'd carry a Glock....

I'm not sure if this is your first, but if it is, I'd recommend a 'mid' priced model from around $1000 to $1500 - Colt's, Springfield, S&W, Kimber - they all seam dependable and hold their value.

Nighthawk , Ed Brown . Les Baer are mighty fine 1911s. However

If I was spending 3K on a 1911 I would much rather spend another 1k and have any of the 1911 gunsmith build me one of a kind 1911 then import it. Guys like Jason Burton, Chuck Rogers etc build works of art.

Check it out

My $0.02

Yes, if you don't mind being on a loooong waiting list!:)

I would like to know if the place where you work is hiring:p

Serious cabbage to drop on any firearm when you are talking in excess of 3,000.00. If you are comfortable with the outlay you are fortunate, congrats.

Nighthawks, Wilson's and even Springfields or Kimbers Custom Shops offerings are not your average 1911 by any stretch.
I like Norinco 1911A1's very much, but know i would never without spending comparable amounts of money, build one into what these company's produce.

Good luck and have fun.

1911's

The 1911 is getting to be a very personal thing in terms of make, model, mods, etc.

Get the best one you can afford.

NAA.

Start with one 1911.

Then buy the next one that you like.

Keep going untill you get them all.

I have 2 Kimbers, 1 Para Ordanance. I plan on at least 2 more Kimbers. At least 1 Para. And then theres S&W, STI Ranger, Night Hawk would be good............. Wilson Combat...........

So many guns. So little money. :(

So far I have 2, a Wilson Combat Professional and an STI Ranger II. I like 'em both. The Ranger is an entry model. Costs roughly 1100$. The Wilson obviously is a high-end semi-custom.

I haven't yet gotten to shooting the Wilson, but I'm sure it'll be a shooter. The STI is a good gun too. Trigger is good, though not as good as the Wilson, it's ambidextrous(minus slide lock) and is reliable and precise.

Another gun I've been eyeing is the Springfield Armory TRP operator. Ambidextrous, fitted magwell, full size. It's what I consider a high-end production. I think it goes for about 1700 and at that price, it's one fine pistol.

I laugh at all the Norinco +1 comments. How many rounds do you guys shoot?

If your looking to spend more than 2k go custom. If not NAA has the best response.

Good luck on your purchase.

Try Dan Wesson.

They are built with lots of high end parts (Wilson etc) yet cost half as much. Arms East carries them.
