Dominion Arms Backpacker Security Concern

Hi, a friend of mine got this little shotgun and shot 6 regular bird shot down the pipe. When he brought the gun to the gunsmith for a little customization, he was told to stop to shoot it because the barrel may explode. After 6 rounds, the barrel showed deformation... I'm a little concerned as I wanted to get one for myself.

Has any of you got security problem like this with this shotgun? I wonder if this cheap shotgun's barrel was already deformed before the shooting. I find it hard to believe that the barrel may be at risk. I know it is a cheap Chinese product, so please don't tell me that. I already read this in other threads. I only want to know if you fell safe when shooting with this backpacker... And If you look in the barrel, is it plain or is there deformations?

Is there any single shot NR alternative to this shotgun?

One of my barrels is a little out of round on my Outlaw. I think by the time the column gets there the pressure down to a few hundred pounds anyway. It came from the factory that way.

It depends what is meant by "deformed." With the thickness of the walls of these things being a little out of round shouldnt be a problem, however if a gunsmith is recommending it not be fired I'd be shipping it back to the dealer with demands for a full refund.

If anything I wish my backpacker had a lighter barrel!
It's massive compared to a cooey single shot and very heavy......
How exactly is your buddy's deformed?
Has he talked with Canammo?
Take a picture.

Well, that's quite the first post on a forum... I'll consider myself lucky, after 50 slugs it's still going strong.

Care to post the gunsmith's contact information?

At least the guy has a trader rating, but if I put my tinfoil hat on, maybe it was for some non regulated gear. He's an anti, burn him I say!

I don't think I want to give gunsmith's information. The guy is really good but he likes good quality (and expensive) products. So he is maybe biased by his own opinions. I too prefer good quality products but in this case, I didn't find a non-restricted alternative to this product.

I will ask for pictures of the barrel (if it's possible to show it on pictures). Maybe the deformations were there before shooting it. The deformations are like swelling as I understand it.

Its amazing to me that anyone would spend $1 on these things, the Outlaw included. Quality like this would not be tolerated in any other consumer product, and would promptly be returned for a refund. One day one of these is going to blow up in someones face.

Quality like what?
Do you have one or have you seen one?
Mine's fine and comparable to a Rossi single shot I have but only cost $150.00 new.

Quality these days is not what it was in the good old days and that includes guns over $500.00

:eek::eek: Now that it was been returned I would like CanAmmo to post here what was wrong with it. I have one and will not fire it until this issue is clarified.

Well it's too bad Williamcolt couldn't describe it better or post a picture....

I wonder if the "swelling" deformations were evident inside the bore of only on the outside?

The Backpacker is about as simple as a shotgun can get and when I look at mine I see no problems and like I said before the barrel is way thicker then the barrel on my break action cooey!

What's the issue with yours MPI?

:D
Both my Outlaw & my Grizzly shoot good with no signs of malfunction with shot or slugs.........knock on wood.

Nobody said they were Purdeys or Greeners or even Mossbergs or Rossis for that matter.

You generally get what you pay for.

Strict Chinese gun control might have saved lives

The problem with chinese stuff is irregular quality. Sometimes it arrived.....

:D
Life is full of ironies.

Mao Tse Tung was paranoid like Joseph Stalin & absolutely forbade private ownership of firearms in Communist China & that rigid control persists to this day.

Judging by the quality of Chinese manufactured firearms this might be the only case where gun control probably saved the lives, eyes & limbs of a few Chinese citizens.....from the actual guns themselves.;)

I would as well. Deformed barrel after 6 rounds, a gunsmith warns not to fire it, CanAm is prompt with a refund and then is silent on the reasons why. Not confidence inspiring.

But then many years ago Ford concluded it was cheaper to pay lawsuits to the victims of exploding Pintos than to perform a minor repair to keep drivers safe.

Nothing that I can tell, I haven't fired it yet. Just want to make sure it is safe to do so. I agree the barrel is very thick, can imagine it deforming without it being part of a catastrophic failure of some kind. What kind of steel is it made of?
