how many of you guys are shooting the 69gr sierra match king bullets out of you remington 700's or savages with 1-9 twist rates? and what kind of results are you getting?

thanks

You can expect 1/2- 1 MOA out to 600 yards if you and your rifle are up to the task.

the ones I am considering are the federal premiuim gold match with that bullet in them. are they going to be just as good even though I don't reload myself?

I've tried some 69 grain Lapua in a CZ 527 with a 1/9 twist rate and it didn't work. Each barrel is different though so hopefully yours will work. Let us know.

It's a little harder now to reload your own ammo that outperforms match factory ammo than it used to be. Each gun is different, and reloading lets you optimize charge, OAL, powder, bullet weight etc for your own gun. Something factory ammo cannot do.

Good reloads developed for a specific rifle will always outperform factory ammo.

Reloads sub 1/2" in my 12 FV with 69gr SMK, never tried factory match ammo in it. Hated Remington cheapy 40 or 45 gr ammo.

No need for a 450 primer. A 400 would be just fine. i load the 69 about 20 thou off the rifling.

Epoxy, if the 69 did not work in your rifle, it had nothing to do with twist. If you post your load, we can suggest the changes to make.

Have you tried factory match ammo?

The best 3 shooters at club, could get with Federal Gold Match 69gr was 1/2" in Savages and Remington 1/9 twist guns.but the reloads with 69gr are in the 2s with match brass neck trimmed lapua & Fed gold match or CCI Benchrest primers, kissing the lands of rifling

Factory ammo that I've tried: 45 Winchester, 55 Winchester, 55 L&B, 62 American Eagle, 63 Swiss RUAG and the 69 grain was Lapua match ammo. So far nothing very impressive.

I haven't started reloading for .223 yet. I just started reloading for .308.

I have some Berger 52 and 64 grain bullets that I will try reloading with Varget, CCI primers. May give 69 SMK a try if the 1:9 twist rate can stabilize it.

For me Sierra MK 69 grain always works under 3/4 MOA in Savage 12FV 1:9 and Tikka 1:8, same load just over 25 gr Varget / Win case /CCI BR-4. I keep it at 2.260" AOL for magazine's sake so I guess it's a big jump. ;) Tried to seat longer and didn't see any improvement.

If 69's didn't shoot in your 1/9, that rifle is cursed! ;)

Could just be that the Lapua ammo velocity wasn't right for my firearm. I know the .308 167 grain Lapua match ammo didn't shoot anything great in my 5R milspec. But when fired out of my LR-308 it was sub .5 moa 5 round groups at 100 yards. The LR-308 had a definite preference for faster ammo. The Lapua was almost 200 FPS faster than the 168 Federal Gold match. Now the problem is finding more of the Lapua.

I have custom 225 Win with 1-14" twist barrel. Never had a problem to stabilize 60 gr spitzers, even in 300 yds targets. My Speer #9 manual, even shows loading 70gr semi spitzers in 1-14" barrel, apparently with no stabilization problems. Aren't those 69SMK, overstabilized in 1-9" or even 1-8" barrels? I even heard about 1-7" twists! Those tight twists lowers bulet speed prety bad. Also, wouldn'd those ultra high RPM, desintegrate some bulets in flight? My 2c.
