His name is Leo Hamel and he uses the name FairFax on a major U.S. gun auction site.
Beware! This guy is a scammer. He sells junk to Canadians because he thinks we are powerless to do anything about it. He even advertizes deals to Canadians.
I've purchased about 8 guns from the fellow. The first couple were almost OK, then some very questionable ones came. I didn't complain then. Next came a shipment of 4 antique guns. Three of them were not as advertised. One was an modern Indian replica! Another was advertised as "no cracks or repairs to the stock", but the stock had been broken through and glued at the wrist. Then a Webley that was advertised as "fairly tight" was so loose it was floppy. He promises money for returns or compensation, but months later I have nothing but excusses. He leads you on untill you can't leave negative feedback, due to time restrictions.
I know of at least two other CGNs who have also been ripped off by Leo, I hope some of them will speak up here.
Beware, he has lots of 'Canadian legal' antiques, and it's tempting to buy, but they are all smoke and mirrors. None of the guns live up to the descriptions in his ads.
Apparently he had a previous screen name that had too many bad feedbacks. If anyone knows the screen name Leo used to rip people off with before he was FairFaxx, I would like to know it.
He just sent me a "refund" with HIS OWN NAME written into the "Pay To:" line. I bet he thought I would send that back to him and waste more time, so I can't leave feedback???... lol.
If anyone doubts this, I'm willing to share some of the assinine emails this joker sent me.

You should tell Homeland Security.

If he sent a modern Indian Replica (not antique) over the border fraudulently, he committed several felonies. No one may export non-antique guns without export permits.

I myself have been burned, but at least not by this guy...

Its a shame some folk take to deceit so easily....Its even a worse shame when you add the high prices we all pay for our chosen hobby.

Im sorry to hear about your experience Sir!
All I guess you can do is educate your fellow Canadians about this "person" and try to make the best out of the purchases you already made.

Yeah, I've been holding off posting this for a while, but today I received a letter from him where he refers to me (Canadians) as "South Park" cartoon charactors who might invade the US and make everyone eat moosemeat!!

His latest scam was to send a registered letter to me with mis-spelled name and an incorrect address so when it would be returned to him, he could claim he tried to reimburse me, but the letter was returned. Ha Ha, even so poorly addressed and delivered to my Bank (WTF?) the letter was delivered to my hands. I can't cash the money order that has his name on the 'Pay To" line, but it is obvious that he thought he would get it back... let me guess, his next tactic will be to claim its an honest mistake and if I just return the MO to him he will straighten it right out... I'll let you know.

Sounds to me like you have evidence of fraud that you could take to your
local RCMP. Since it involves firearms, they might get interested.
who knows what eles this guy does that is not above board on both sides of the border.

Tell him you have contacted the RCMP regarding illegally exporting a firearm and money order related fraud. See if he changes his tune.

Also mention that they do a LOT of data sharing with State Department, BATF and other nefarious alphabet agencies... The scammer is looking at a 100,000 dollar fine for exporting the non-antique firearm, plus jail time for the fraud.

His Wife Penny is nice and the only reason i bought the second gun as i dealt with her not him.

Now to Be Fair and so Jetfullers dont Stroke out on us :D not all his guns are Terible junk.
But they will not be as good as Advertised most of the time.
Ya really gota look at the pics Carefully and ask Questions tho you get lies back 99% of the time.

Well, that was easy to predict!

Quote, Leo Hamel; "Todd, an employee filled it out. I guess he isnt as smart as you and me. Truly, if the name was in the wrong place it was an accident. try to get you bank to accept it. if not, send it back and i will send it again myself to avoid problems."

Yeah right! I've been dealing with this same stuff for about three months now, I'm sure he thinks I can't leave poor feedback soon...

US Antique gun scam

It would seem this guy has crossed a couple lines in mailing stuff to you, that were deliberately missleading, this should be brought to the attention of the US mail service, who have enormous clout in cases like this!! Remember Conrad, he got convicted because he mailed a cheque, which put him in the sights of the US postmaster General. regards Bully

PLEASE ADD $25 AS WE GET CHARGED TO RECEIVE THE WIRES."

Since when does this happen? It's the SENDER who gets charged, around $30. While buying an antique on Antiquegunlist recently the seller mentioned he accepted wire transfers but on MY end said there would be a charge of around $25-$35, so I sent a money order instead.

he's added this to his auctions...

"OUT OF COUNTRY BUYERS, PLEASE US BANK WIRE ONLY. WE WILL SEND YOU THE DETAILS IF YOU WIN. PLEASE ADD $25 AS WE GET CHARGED TO RECEIVE THE WIRES."

yes... and he refuses to send my refund by bank wire because it will 'cost him $25', yet the registered letter he sent me cost $25 to mail. I paid him by bank wire, BTW.

He also charges $50 shipping for a gun that can be sent for $30.
