Either the front sight was replaced or if it has an ivory bead it may have come from the factory originally with a tang sight.

Definitely a "jack" sight to match the tang sight. Every one of mine that I have got with the tang sight has the higher post front sight. It is definitely one of the sights available as an option and period correct, so that is good enough for this ole boy!
