Gun Shops in Montreal

Dante Sports has served me very well, I bought quite a few handguns from them last year. The mecca of hunters and sports shooters in Montreal. I stil drop in on them and buy a few things every time I'm in MTL. They're right in little Italy. Some people have had bad experiences with'em, the owner in particular, but I always found them to be very knowledgeable and helpful, if a bit pushy.
The other one I know of is CRAFM (one of the site sponsors), just southeast of PET airport. Tricky to get to, but worth the trip.

CRAFM is a great place with a large variety. They are in an industrial park in Lachine. In March 09 the sign by the road said Club de tir. I ended up driving past it three or four times cause I was looking for CRAFM.
My experience with Dante was not great.He wouldn't look me in the eye. Also would not give me the sale price on an M+P(he had in stock) because I was two days past the sale closing.He was willing to give me the sale price on a gun that was going on the following month. He is greasy and is in a bad part of town.
Stick with CRAFM they are great and so is the service.

Pusky? Price-wise, I have to say Dante's always offered me unbeatable deals. Even after shopping around, their price was the lowest. The two stores definitely cater to different crowds though.

Why's this in Gunsmithing??
He looks me straight in the eye, calls me by my name and shakes my hand every time I'm in. Always has. Maybe he didn't trust you and didn't want to sell you a gun...

I find this VERY respectable, the now owner of the shop inherited from his father in the 80's. (a very good guy) we asked him about this choice. he stated that the store was originally and gun shop, but with all the cooking in the area his mother and father went into business and added the cookware. the reason i call this VERY respectable is he also went on to say, it worked for my father, and is still doing well, I don't have the heart to change anything. (he even showed me he's dad's boots by the back door.)
every time I walking, he'll come around the counter to say hello, and personally take the order(s).

What's really interesting with Dante's is that they also deal in high-end kitchenware...

one guy at dante is a loudmouth but i got served by the other guys and was given a fair price.
crafm was good too and if you go there to buy a gun you can also shoot a loaner at their range.
all gunstores have know-it-alls who walk in off the street and spew B.S. every single day to the workers.i find that once a store knows you mean "bid-nes" and if you become a "regular" prices can magically come down somewhat.

I've been to both. I purchased a M14 at crafm, was very well served, the guy even stayed after hours to complete my sale. I was a happy customer.
I have purchased only powder and bullets and other small items at Dante's, and have mixed views of the place. It seems once they know you, you are treated much better than the first time you go, which is not exactly a great business practice, but what can you do. I now also get the handshake when I leave.
The gun area is in such a crammed space, its a "get what you need and get the hell out" kind of store, so the next guy can get what he wants. If your the kinda guy that likes to talk it up at the gun counter, this is Not the place for you.
Unfortunately in the Montreal area we have very little choice, and for reloading, Dantes is pretty well the only place except for the few things LeBaron might have, and the service there........ well, don;t even get me going on that.
I think the largest store in the area would be Baron/Sail in Laval. I have only been there once, but if I remember correctly they have a large selection of firearms. Maybe someone who has been there will chime in on this.

Go to Dante, it is worth the experience. Rudy (the owner) is a real gentleman. He does not like lowballers, just toodle on up to LeBaron if you want to deal with "bigbox" store.
I bought my first pistol there, Rudy was great and took all the time I needed. I'll most definitely stop in whenever I am close.

Going to Dante is somewhat of an experience... If you've never had to deal with a bunch of Italians, it's kind of fun... Honestly, I think Rudy 'expect' you to aggle a bit (that's half the fun of shopping there)
CRAFM, it's one of the nicest indoor shooting range in Quebec, the guys behind the counters are pretty knowlegable and down to earth. Nice selection of pistols to look at.
If you are into "hunting" stuff and nice shotguns (and have access to a car) Londero Sports in St-Jean sur Richelieu is another interesting place to visit.

Are you for real?? Rudy is a real pushover. You got him on a good day maybe. The guy likes to give speeches more than selling. If you dont buy from him, you're getting ####. Prices are the best?? The guy has no idea that the internet exists and his prices reflect it. He's a gun ferengi. He makes you feel like he's doing you a favor talking to you.
Go to Crafm and Lebaron. If you have to go to Dante, deal with Jimmy 1st and Aldo 2nd ... If they are both not there ..leave.
Since this has turned into a bit of a "share your Dante stories" thread, here's two of mine.
When I saw 4x4's new PC629 (pictured below) I wanted one straight away. I must've spoken to half a dozen store reps, they had no idea where to begin. I even spoke to Questar's American counterpart, who told me American distributors weren't even listing them yet. Then I called Rudy, gave him the SKU#, a week later he shipped it to me.
Then when I was on the market for a 610, again, called a half dozen stores for a price check. Dante's price was a good $50 lower than everywhere else. It wasn't in stock, but a week later I got the call. That's what 60 years in the business gets ya, unreal distributor contacts.
