Here is what I saw and was told by the Walmartians the last time I was hunting for .22 for my pigs:
1. I had to go to three Walmarts (Kenaston, St. Vital, and finally Leila) to get "any" .22 ammo. I had to settle for Federal 500 packs for $25.99. ($29.10 after the government's share) Close to 6c a round. Back in September 2008 333's were $10.99 per box or 3.7c a round. I went into a Cambodian Tire later that week and found 500's (not Federal can't remember the name) for $20.99 a piece. I'll be trying those next time around.
2. Two separate sporting good reps at two out of the three Walmarts said right now they are only getting in 5-6 boxes per shipment (as in 2500-3000 rounds in at a time) of the Federal and that the 333's have not been in in a while. They said they last on the shelf for maybe 3 hours tops.
While I am not implying the sky falling, it seems Chinamart is being squeezed with what is going on in the U.S. and simply bringing in less ammo into Canada. With the cost of gas and having to take trips around the city makes the cost higher.
Time to find a bulk quantity of 10,000 pieces and get er done or take the wife to Grand Forks for the weekend.
