.22lr ammo at walmart in winnipeg?

i buy all 333s the St Vital Wal-Mart has when I see them. But lately it has gone up from under $10 a box to almost $13. i have not seen Dynapoints for about 6 months.

Here is what I saw and was told by the Walmartians the last time I was hunting for .22 for my pigs:

1. I had to go to three Walmarts (Kenaston, St. Vital, and finally Leila) to get "any" .22 ammo. I had to settle for Federal 500 packs for $25.99. ($29.10 after the government's share) Close to 6c a round. Back in September 2008 333's were $10.99 per box or 3.7c a round. I went into a Cambodian Tire later that week and found 500's (not Federal can't remember the name) for $20.99 a piece. I'll be trying those next time around.

2. Two separate sporting good reps at two out of the three Walmarts said right now they are only getting in 5-6 boxes per shipment (as in 2500-3000 rounds in at a time) of the Federal and that the 333's have not been in in a while. They said they last on the shelf for maybe 3 hours tops.

While I am not implying the sky falling, it seems Chinamart is being squeezed with what is going on in the U.S. and simply bringing in less ammo into Canada. With the cost of gas and having to take trips around the city makes the cost higher.

Time to find a bulk quantity of 10,000 pieces and get er done or take the wife to Grand Forks for the weekend.

At those prices you might as well just buy the American Eagle stuff from Cabela's or WSS, $20 last time I checked (but $15 last time I bought).

Their website has conflicting prices, and their box counts are conflicting on what they have in store. They have 50 round boxes for $2.79 and 10 packs (500 rounds) for $21.99 in one window and $24.99 in another window. So those prices fluctuate from 5.6c to 6.2c per round. However I have AE boxes and bricks here purchased from Cabella's at the $21.99 price but the individual boxes were 40 rounders at ten boxes per brick not 50 rounders, making the price 6.2c per round. If their site is right and 500 rounds is 5.6c a piece, I am going tomorrow to buy 5000 rounds and be done with it. I have a Krinker Plinker coming and an R22 and 10/22 to feed and 5.6c beats anything especially with American Eagle other than the $20.99 price I saw in Cambodian Tire for a 500 round brick of ammo that the name now escapes me. (4.7c a round)

I've been popping into Cabella's pretty much weekly to check up on 22 ammo and buy a couple more bricks. They only have AE 40 solids at 21.99, none of my favorites, the 38gr hollow points sold in bricks of 400. They have some other stuff, but nothing I'm as happy to shoot from my guns.

I went into Walmart up North McPhillips and the lady there said she wasn't going to order any more ammo at all until they had empties their shelves of centerfire. I told her that made no sense and that 22 rimfire is in big demand during the summer. She said when they last ordered ammo, they got a full shipment of everything and the shelves were overstocked.

Each Wal-Mart has thier own policy when stocking and selling goods. The St. Vital store manager is a shooter and I have been assured that ammo would be available when thier distributor has stock. The shortage has been caused by the struggle in Iraq....most ammo manufacturers have been producing ammo for overseas. The public can have any overages but not much of that comes north.

Just in case anyone wanted to know......I just got back from the St.Vital Walmart and they had Winchester Dynapoints in stock. I picked up a few but it looked like there were maybe 6 or 7 more boxes of 500 there.

SINCE CABALAS "TOOK OVER" S.I.R., I HAVE NOTICED A HECK OF A PRICE INCREASE!!!! wholesale sports is opening a new store about 5 minutes from my house ,here on vancouver island( NANAIMO). can,t wait. opens end of june.

If cabelas or wss here sold 333's i would. I've been told they will work well in my rifle so I was trying to get some. Im also going to WSS to get some more stuff now actually. I hate cabelas though, I avoid it like the plague.

If you are still looking, I just came back from Cabelas and they do have the 333's for $16 a box as well as the Federal 525 for $23/box.

I was down that way a month ago.. You will not find any 22lr except a brick or two of sniper sub sonic. I think that was priced at 46 usd. No other stores had any 22 rimfire except gander in fargo
