Has anybody had a problem with this firearm, I was at the range the other day with it, fired a few 45's and then loaded up some Hornady 454 casull's in 240 gr xtp/mag. The first round went down range like it was suppose to and so did the second, but then the hammer would not #### and cyl didn't turn or open, looking at it from the side looks like the firing pin is forward, any guess what happened or a fix for it? Thanks guys!!!!!

Hopefully you didnt have a pressure flow or blowout from the full house loads. Factory loads or homeloads? If the primer is pierced the firing pin may be pinched and holding onto the pin..Should be an easy fix if careful.

hornady makes some skookum rounds and in my super redhawk those 240gr ones do get some flattening of the primer, just enough to see, but not enough to be dangerous.

the 454's are loaded to dam near max from the factory.

Am I the only one who doesn't find the concept of firing three different cartridges in a revolver particularly appealing? Reloading makes cartridges, particularly revolver cartridges, incredibly versatile, so using different cartridges to add variety to your handgun becomes a moot point.

Before picking up a .460, I would go for the .500, knowing full well I can load it to three (or more) different powers.

Just sayin'...

yeah but in the same breath I can BUY factory ammo of ANY power factor for a 460.... from 800 FPS 45LC cowboy action loads to 2200fps 460 barn burners....

to me this is the beauty of the caliber and gun.....

I am planning on using my 454 casull ruger super redhawk to shoot IDPA with, with 45LC loads moving out at 850 fps 230gr bullet.

it will be a pussy cat and the additional shooting I am going to so with it "training" wise by shooting IDPA will make me a better shooter with it and able to do reloads fast with it if I carry it for wilderness protection.

I am using a mernickle holster, HKS speedloaders and some mernickle speedloader pouches for it.... its going to be fun.

Yes, you may be the only one. :p Sure with reloading we can download a cartridge but do you use 357 Magnum brass for all your powder puff light loads? I use 38 Special for that. Because it is much cheaper brass. I can find it free at the range too. And if I shoot a match I don't go crazy if I don't find it all.

And of course the smaller cartridge with light loads will use a bit less powder.

How many rounds of 500 Magnum are you going to have loaded up at a time?

Not for me. .460 Magnum all the way. Cheaper brass. Available brass. Cheaper bullets. Available bullets. Lots of documented loads for the 45 Colt and 454 Casull.

And then of course the 460 Magnum is faster. :p (note I said faster)

not 45 auto unless you relieve it to take moon clips.... but yes the 460 will take 45 LONG COLT, 454 casull and the 460 ammo.... of course it is an "X" frame pistol so is huge.

I wonder if you use the 45 Auto Rim, if that will work out of the .460.?

Sounds like you might have suffered that S&W malady of the extractor rod loosening and tying up the gun, because as it loosens it lengthens. Try tightening it up, and if this proves to be the case, unscrew it and put a dab of blue Loktite on it to prevent further problems.

Ok we got it fixed. Took a bit of doing and had to fab a tool ( thanks to my friend Gethismanaslap) but we did it. Pin went right into the round and held! the tool was the only way, dowel would not get into the flash hole.

Yes. Lots of companies will bend over backwards to customers in this kind of situation to avoid negative press.
