Building AR-15 or just Buy Norinco M4?

Ahem... guys.

We are forgetting the point that the Chinese state arsenals are providing this same AR platform to non-aligned countries (Iran, Bolivia etc) Many foreign governments who like US hardware and can't obtain it are buying from Norinco. The M4 as supplied here is simply the semi auto only version. As posted earlier, if the US wants to be so stupid with their export laws to a so-called friendly neighbour (Canada) I say f**k 'em, buy Chinese. The same issue applies when it comes to their outlook on ammo sales to us. Many European suppliers are quite happy to fill in the void.

AFAIC, my M4 is an excellent carbine, inexpensive as compared to the US options especially for a range queen. For $1500 plus one could buy a couple rifles, a rifle and some ammo, a rifle, some reloading gear etc etc.

One thing for sure you can have a pretty cool tricked out rifle for half the investment of the domestic.

I wonder when the AR15 and its variants will be made prohibited. :-(

I guess it won't hurt those that already own AR15's but that means we won't be able to shoot 'em. Nice to look it but no fun if can't be used.

There is no provision in the law for any additional grandfathering. If an existing firearm is declared prohibited by OIC, the only option is confiscation, and there is no provision for compensation.

Crap!

So wait a sec... 50calshooter says get 'em while you can... but when and if they decide to make it prohibited, you're saying I have to surrender my AR?!?

Under the law, as it stands, there is no provision for grandfathering newly prohibited firearms.
IF prohibitions were done by amending the legislation, there could be. BUT introducing new legislation would open a can of worms. OIC would be the easy way.
Basically, if you want one of these rifles, get one. No one knows what will or will not happen in the future.

Okay.. Thx for the info.

Let's hope we don't have to surrender our ARs. I plan to buy one. Definitely going to be so many angry owners out there if this were to happen.

Silly question... once it goes prohib, those who own one already can buy more?
Think about it, if they prohib this class of firearm, hopefully the people who already own them would be granted a level of prohib status and could keep them. Those who did not own any AR's prior to this would be #### out of luck. Hence, "buy them while you can" in hopes they would grant owners prohib status, instead of confiscation. The civil uprise as a result of confiscation would be catastrophic, me hopes they would rewrite some legislation to grandfather these.... otherwise all their getting is my lower.....

No, I hope there is no grandfathering. Grandfathering is just delayed confiscation. The result is the same - all the guns get melted down or dewatted - but they avoid the uproar that would be caused by confiscating thousands of guns from thousands of people. Instead of tens of thousands of pissed off AR owners at one time, they can fight against a bunch of old guys' heirs (who probably don't give a crap) one by one. Furthermore, people are much less likely to fight a prohibition if they know they'll get to keep their guns.

There is a "as long as I can still have one I don't care who else can't have one" attitude in the firearms community that has been showcased time and time again. Grandfathering is the greatest evil because it turns the community against itself and destroys the will to fight against prohibition.

So no, I hope that there is no grandfathering and that when some dimwitted politician proposes a ban on ARs we all fight tooth and nail against it regardless of our license class.

I would say build your own. You get to do some learning in the process, and its fun!

If you have no problem buying Chinese and want to save cash, then buy Norinco.

well said, I never thought of it that way... Thanks

I had just finished my lower receiver when the Norcs hit the market, after looking at the Norcs and figuring out how much an upper was going to cost, I split the difference - now I use my Norc upper on my Armalite lower, and I have a spare Norc lower (and it was still cheaper than buying a 14.5 upper on it's own, especially with an F/A bolt group).

The Norinco AR is the best thing going right now. Light, handy and 1-2.5 MOA accurate with the right loads.

I am looking for a Norinco upper BTW.

Is that a standard at 100 yards? 1-2.5" groups at 100 yards? Sorry.. I'm a noob.

I did a quick search and all I know it means Minute of Angle which doesn't mean much to me. LOL!

So compared to a real AR15, what is the MOA?

BTW, if my plastic comes in, I'm going to Epps this weekend. I'm gonna buy this sucka! :)

Thanks!

build a 9mm AR they are a blast to shoot out to 100yr and are alot cheeper to shoot as well. I have owned them both and prefer the 9mm. I stick to my bolt gun if I want to shoot distance. and you can always add a 223 upper later.
