Our club is thinking about purchasing 5 O/U shotguns to use for weekly our "Beginners night" trap shoots.

We are looking for something that is reasonably priced and functional. Fit and finish is not important, we just want 5 identical shotguns that work and we can do instruction with, rather than the mish mash of borrowed shotguns we use now.

We just want the beginner to have a reasonable chance of hitting a slow moving clay.:D

I noticed Marstar has some Turkish shotguns but appear sold out. Any other options someone can think of?

P&D sells IGA/Stoeger Condors for $525. They come in 12ga, 20ga, and .410. I don't have any firsthand experience with them but from what I hear they're very good for the price; great for teaching new shooters.

I've recently tried a few of the Mossberg Silver Reserve O/U. Think they retail on avg. in the $500-600 range. I believe it's Turkish made and distributed by Mossberg. Reasonable balance, reasonable weight and it was fun to shoot and I was hitting birds. I had saved up for a Caesar Guerini, but if I was still pinched for the budget, I probably would have bought this gun.
Can't speak to long term use though but quality wise as a club investment I doubt if you would want to go any cheaper than this.

Most places I think sells the IGA coachgun supreme for $525.00. They are side by side though. They have a nice recoil pad on them. They look very nice for the money too. They are great shot guns and well built. They usually require a bit of "cleaning" when they first arrive and need to be assembled but I guess that is normal. I think you would be very happy with 5 of them, perhaps you may get a discount for them. Also perhaps contact stoeger, they may offer a discount since you are purchasing them for teaching purposes.

If that tag is a bit too much, perhaps Chris at Canada Ammo has something that will do. I think they have some 870 clones for like $300 and change, I know you want O/U, perhaps he will have something that will fit the bill better.

My wife has the stoeger condor 20 ga. I think it would be perfect for your use. The triggers leave a lot to be desired, and the action came very stiff but good and tight. We have had no problems with it whatsoever.

I'm not a fan of shotguns under the $1000 mark, but I have a friend with a IGA / Stoeger Condor that comes as a combo with interchangeable barrels in 12g and 20g. He seems to break clays with it just as well as I do with my Ruger Red Label. The option of putting on the 20g barrel might be appealing for younger / smaller shooters. I suppose it depends on how much you are planning on using them...the cheaper shotguns are not really designed for heavy use. A $1700 shotgun that works for decades is better than two or three $600 shotguns that break after a year or two. That said, a Benelli M2 runs cheaper than most mid end o/u's and will run reliably for as long as your likely to own one. Tough decision.

I'd chime in for the Baikal too. Not pretty but very durable.

Have you approached a dealer to cut a deal? Bulk purchase at a favourable price in return for promotional consideration? Maybe a free meal or two at your place? ;)

Our club has a bunch of 'beginner guns' for people wanting to get into shooting. We have 5 or 6 of 20's and the same number of 12's. They are all identical SPZ M's made by Yildiz and they all wok well and some have beautiful stocks. Had them about three years and some musy have 20,000 rds or so through them. Been great guns. I think they were just over $600 a piece but that a few years ago now. Might be woth checking out though.

Why not some of the Baikals at Trade Ex.

My Baikal O/U 12 gauge is a superb, affordable O/U. Over the last 30 or so years, it has proven to be a solid performer. It's a light feeling, well balanced shotgun that's just seems to come to the shoulder in one fluid motion and seems to fit well for almost anyone who tries it.

What are the chamber lengths on these baikals? I looked at most of them on the website and didn't see it mentiond. They look to be the way I would go as well Gatehouse, especially if they are 2 3/4" chamber.
