Would love to have a Canadian made AR....

Since our tax dollars pay for the military...they should be free right? :D;)

They ARE free, just drop by your local recruiting office, go through a few tests, sign some papers, and you will have one in your hands in no time. They even throw in some free travel to exotic locales free of charge.

From what i've heard you dont get to shoot them right away :p

Real issues C7's no...but there are other Canadian made AR's you can buy. I love my DLASK made lower!

Folks on CGN have also made "C7 clones" with parts that are available. Semi-auto only of course!

Paid vacation to Middle East is all the convincing one would need.

Just watch out for camel spiders though.

In all seriousness though, Diemaco originally started as a crown corporation. When it went private they had to sign an agreement with the federal government stating they would only sell to government entities (LE, MIL, that sorta thing).

There are of course exceptions to that, some C7 parts ended up for sale in the states somehow (probably when Colt acquired Diemaco and started using them to subsidize their own production). But the legality of those in Canada is iffy at best.

Best bet is to just build any AR15 to match a C7; IIRC the specifications aren't classified or anything.

ATR was making custom lowers at one point and I have seen a few for sale in the EE, as for Dlask, some people dig his stuff whereas others don't, some folk have had quality issues from him, I bought a flash suppressor that he produces in house, I left it on the work table in my garage, and within a few weeks, it had a nice coating of rust on it, so as you may have guessed I am not to impressed with the coatings he puts on some of his products,I had flash suppressors made by Troy, YHM, and Noveske sitting right beside the Dlask one, and low and behold, none of those had one sign of rust on them.

Not quite sure how it rusted anyway, as I live in the prairies, not near the coast. Prairie air is typically dry, I'll post a pic of it when I get a chance.

I'm sure Walter at ArmsEast can provide you with a Stag Arms 'C7 clone' that would perform identically (at least).

Either way it sounds like you need a dehumidifier...

Your info on Diemaco is incorrect.
It was never a crown corp, it was a susidiary of Devtek
Diemaco thru the Cdn Gov had a license to sell to the CF from Colt, it got chnaged to Fed LE, and Europe, then changed to add any Cdn LE dept.
The Colt bought it from Devtech Heroux.

The TDP for the C7 series is not public domain.

Mmmm, you're probably right, all I know is mostly hearsay... Although that makes more sense, cause IIRC colt denied diemaco the license to use the heavy barrel.

Oh well. Learn something new everyday.

What do you mean "the heavy barrel".
The standard barrel on the C7 I used (early 90's, just before they went to scopes) was heavier than the barrel on the American M16A1's.

Actually compared to the C7 the M16A1 felt like a flimsy little toy.

C7 & variants

No you can't buy a real one........the real ones shoot auto. Recruiting is listed in Canada 411, yellow pages, local phone book or google it. You get to carry it around alot and clean it before you ever use it. It is your third arm. Get a complete dlask for 1500 visit dlask website......I like the Made in Canada stamp and the Leaf too...green furniture an Elcan and you have your clone.
