Which is better? M1 garand or a norinco M14?

i am looking at one of two rifles ,a m1 garand or a norinco m14 .I would like to know wich would be a better rifle?i can only afford one ,right now.tell me what you guys and gals think.

Simply on the basis of price I would go with the M-14. It is a bit simpler to strip as well. You do get three more rounds with the M1, but the M-14 has more accessories, scopes and tweaks easier. I would get the M-14 first.
 
Take the money that the Garand would cost... buy the M14 first and use the left over money as a down payment on the Garand... then a month later pay off the rest of the Garand... then start saving for reloading kit so you can afford to feed the two pigs lol.

As a side note I love my M14 and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Garand.

It will all come down to what you'd like to do with the rifles.
 
Get the Norinco M14 (price and availability) right now (especially while I'm still alive :D ) since there are many, many experience M14 tweakers on this forum willing to help you.

Get out and shoot that M14 after playing lots with it and tightening things up. Then when more funds are available and the right M1 Garand picques (sp?) your interest, then jump on it for collecting and blasting purposes!

IMO, the Garand's asking prices are through the roof. It's getting ridiculous. As a shooter, you can't beat the M-14 for the many reasons already listed. A scope is easier to mount on an M-14 as well, not to mention the detachable magazine.
 
No offense to you M14 people, but those Norinco's have no real history or personality to me, while the Garand doesn't even need to be called by the model number it's so famous.
To own the rifle that a guy like General Patton claimed did more to win the second world war than any other piece of equipment is to live the milsurp gun owner's dream. There's no tweaking to be done on the Garand either. Just load ammo and enjoy! The iron sights are the only downside to me, and in a way ammo fussiness, but I reload so it's not an issue.

Oh ya and most of all, the best reason to own the Garand:

BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG--- PING!!!

I believe the General claimed that the Garand was the best battle implement ever devised.

Found the quote "The greatest implement of battle ever devised"

It is thought that should the General have lived long enough to encounter the M14 he would have changed his mind.

I asked myself that question 18 years ago and my solution was to buy both of them ( when they were a heck of a lot cheaper than today ). I still have them today and each have there pros and cons. I personaly love shooting both but my garand is used more than the norinco because it's more accurate and consistant.
 
I prefer the Garand but when I bought mine they were selling for the same price as the M14.

Now I have both. The M14 is an awesome rifle for the dough. That's all there is to it.

Agreed. Think about it guys. You can hear the ping pretty clearly at the range. Fine.

The enemy may have even been able to hear it on the battlefield every now and then. Fine.


Let me pose a scenario. You are in World War II, and you just finished your En-block. PING! Said enemy comes up to shoot you because he knows that you are out of ammunition.

The rest of your squad, who you are probably always traveling with, mows him down.

Meh.. even if it did happen, it was claimed that once the GIs figured it out, they could lure the Germans out by dropping an empty enbloc on the ground to make the same noise.

If they came out thinking they were out of ammo, they found a whole lot of lead coming their way...

Besides, I can reload the Garand faster then I can swap mags or even stripper clip the M14.... as long as I dont get my friggin thumb caught.. It will only ever happen once..
