7mm vs 280

Why would someone buy a 280 when they could have a 7mm. I don't see recoil as a problem.bb message

7mm does not designate any specific cartridge. The 280 was for a time sold as the 7mm express.:D

If you are referring to the 7mmremmag,why would anyone buy a 7mmremmag when they could have a 7mmstw?

Why would anyone buy a 7mmstw when they could have a 7mmRUM?

I've got all three of the calibers mentioned above and have killed alot of animals with them.I've yet to see the differance in killing power. The .270 with 150gr bullets and the 06 with 180gr bullets will do anything the 7mag can and do it cheaper and with less recoil.

The 7mmrem mag has to be one of the most overrated magnums out there. Its the magnum for guys who can't shoot a real magnum. Most people that brag on the 7mag,use 140 or 150 grain bullets and yet the same weight in .270 just bounces off animals.

You'll hear about the 7mm mag being light in recoil, which it is. The reason being most loads in the 7mag are only 3 to 4 grains more then the 270 and 06. Which also lends it to the old saying "I liked my 7mag,until I bought a chronograph".

I can see this vs that type threads when the snow is fart hole deep, but this time of year???

The potential of the 7MM RM is only realized through handloading.I have tried many many loads with my 7mm RM .As soon as I would push the pressure levels the accuracy went to pot and the speed was very dissappointing. However I finally tried RL 22.It really shines with RL22 powder. It is easy to put a 140 grain out at over 3300 fps with superb accuracy. It will also put a 150 out at over 3200 with superb accuracy. The 7mm rm and RL22 is a match made in heaven. I haven't personally seen a 7mm which doesn't like it.

If you're going magnum and if you practice enough and toughen up why not get a 8mm rem mag. or a .338 Lapua , I mean why not make bigger holes for more blood to come out, you are trying to kill it right? stop wimpering about recoil, practice makes perfect . . .

In 47 yrs of hunting I've never owned a magnum and never will. I like to shoot my hunting rifles and prefer not to deal with all of the sound and fury(and costs) associated with the magnum ctgs. I've shot game with all of the following conventional or "pussy" rounds over the years and never saw a need for anything more; .25-06,7x57 mauser,270 Win,.280 Rem,.30-30 Win,.308 Win,.30-06,.303 Brit,.348Win,and .50 cal ML. I've also seen a lot of animals that were badly shot up with a lot of meat ruined by others using magnum ctgs that they were not able to shoot well. Proper bullet placement at a reasonable range is everything.

7mm Rem mag

With todays bullets with high BC like Bergers and some of the newer powders like RL 17 the big bullets just sail right passed the small 140gr & 130gr way more energy and just as flat or better than the smaller bullets. over 500 ftlbs energy from 400 to 1000 than the small bullets. and buck the wind twice as good.
Don't get rid of your 7mm rem mag there are hard to beat.
