Am I allowed to fire an airgun inside my own house?

I've had conflicting info on this.

A non-PAL requiring airgun or airpistol - can I fire it in my basement for target practice?

Specifically, in Toronto.

Thanks,

BJS

Yeah why not? You can use a nail gun in your house so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to fire one.

Unless the other residence forbid it.

I like to shut my basement windows. Close the drapes, and pretend
to handle my 177 cal rifle. It's good practice and fun too.

But here in Mississauga you're not allowed to discharge a firearm. (local bylaw)

If a tree falls in the forest and there is none there to hear it.... Doest it make a sound..?

Really who the f*** cares... 'Just don't put yer eye out.

A bylaw is a pretty minor threat and is all but unenforceable if the rifle is being used out of sight in a private dwelling. The probability of a law being obeyed is proportional to the probability of being caught.

I think my municipality bans use of any firearm in city limits. An air gun is a firearm but if under a prescribed velocity or energy is exempted from registration requirements, but its still a "firearm" under the FA. But I can get 10m diagonally in my attached garage and the probability of getting caught is near zero.

As a young boy I used to shoot my mossberg .22 in my backyard... In mississauga..
Our lot was about 75'x200... noone ever complained.
Oh the good ol' days. :)

^ What he said applies for toronto as well, but no one cares if it's inside your house. The worst they'll do is confiscate it, now getting caught doing that outside is a different story.

The cops came to our house because one of the neighbours phoned the police because my brother was playing airsoft in the backyard, and they said it is illegal to fire it with in city limits.

Calgary has a no-discharge bylaw for airguns. Something extraordinary would have to happen to have them actually charge you for doing that in your own house however. I have done it several times. My CO2 pistol rattled the ductwork a little, but I had no issues otherwise.

I used a box stuffed with newsprint/phonebooks as a backstop. It lasted quite a while before pellets would chew their way through to the back, but replenishing the material was simple enough.

Safe, easy and convenient way to go shooting without going shooting :)

My 80 year old neighbor shoots his in the back yard, he even came and asked if he could teach my son to shoot, my wife laughed and said sure.
