Winchester Model 70 Opinion

The good price on the leftover M70 is probably because they have come out with another "new" M70. (see winchesterguns.com). Jim Carmichel reviewed it in Outdoor life and gave a good review except for the trigger which he implied was still not as good as the pre 64 ones.

I have two pre 64 30/06s and an A bolt SS with a 22" barrel. All I can tell you is that the M70 with the 24" barrel shoots way better than the A bolt but is heavier. I use the A bolt for rough, close work where I won't likey have any long shots, like whitetail bush hunting, and use the M70 for more open country because it is much more accurate. I think the accuracy comes from the the fact that it is heavier and better balanced than the lighter shorter A bolt.

I like the A-Bolts myself, in fact the A-bolt I owned was easily the most accurate rifle I had ever owned. But I would take a Model 70 over just about any other rifle on the market at the moment.

Ask for a return of the deposit for a no-show. You should not be expected to wait for 2 years...If they won't budge, post the store name here, so we all know who NOT to deal with anymore...

At the very least, take a store credit, that you can use for a scope or ammo, etc...

I would totally agree with this. Any store that is holding a deposite for 2 years has absolutely no intention of comming through with the order. get your mony back, then post their name so that no other person has to go through what you have been through. If he refuses to give the money back, a little work with the sherriffs office could have you a Winchester model 70 for $200.00.

Don't buy ONE Win M70!

Buy TWO of them!! LOL :D

I'm in the process of having an M70 Hvy Varmint built into a .243 with an 8" Krieger for a LR rig! ;) A-bolts come and go, they can be great shooters, but they will never have the character and soul of a Winnie!!

Win.270 WSM

I bought a Win.M70 featherweight in L/H 270 WSM and the gun shot .6'' groups with 130gr partition reloads. so accuracy was great and well A-Bolts I would consider yourself lucky at a chance not to buy it the M70 is a better gun as the A-bolt I had was of poor quality and I would never buy one again.

Shot quite a few rounds through an A-bolt in 270 wsm, can't think of anything nice to say about it other than it don't explode in my hands.

Well I decided to purchase the Winchester and ended up paying $714.00 to my door which I figured was a very good price for a new Model 70 270WSM Left Hand Sporter III. Although the fit and finish is not as good as the Browning Medallion would have been (I have other Browning A-Bolts) it was $400.00 cheaper which allows me to purchase a better scope for one of my other guns. Browning should learn that taking almost two years to deliver a production gun costs them business. I hope its a shooter.

Have the $200 applied to a store credit to buy bullets and accessories for your new Win 70.

2 years for an A-bolt. Not.
