Pics of the new M14s.

Only one of my 6 stocks looked beaten to hell and it became a shorty pistol grip stock.Oh and I think that should be 1960's beaten to hell.

Poly receiver? Someone help me out here, but wasn't there some negatives about the Polytechs?

There is a long running discussion of the differences between Poly Tech and Norinco. Which is better? Which one is made closer to USGI specifications? Which one has the better steel? It goes on. Too much to articulate here. Do a Google search for Different's M1A webpage ( http://www.imageseek.com/m1a ). He is also a poster back on an earlier page on this thread. His online manual called the 'RHAD' is a gem of research, and explains what those differences are.

Keep in mind any American reference to Polytechs or Norincos will be 15 years out of date. It was '94 (or '96, I can't remember which) when Clinton banned import of Chinese guns.

Well...........to answer those "was it worth it" bunch ? I have NEVER bought a firearm that was made off of American soil and never regretted it for an instant. One thing the price difference did do though, was to make me think twice about my purchase and whether I really needed to have it.My decision never let me down.
I may not have as many guns as the next guy but the ones I have are there for the long term,if I so desire. If not,I can always get my original investment back as long as I do my part and take care of them................which I do !

I hate to be the one to spoil your party, but the reciever of your "American" gun was cast somewhere in South America (OK, I guess that counts as 'american" of some sort...), and it was machined in Canada.

Machined by a bunch of half asleep Quebecers in Ville St. Laurent.

The Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A receiver is cast outside the United States but not in South America. The M1A receiver is machined in Illinois. China was exporting semi-automatic M14/M305 rifles to Canada and New Zealand until 2008 with 1993/1994 vintage receivers. President Clinton imposed a U. S. ban on firearms and ammunition from the People’s Republic of China on May 26, 1994.

alpha castings of quebec has or did have, the contract for "ceramic tree casting" of the springfield recievers, and as Different has stated they are finish machined in the U.S.

I believe that Alphacasting still produces the recievers for springfield. They also cast AR15 upper recievers and parts for Para Ordnance. When I was still at ETS in Montreal (engineering university) I had a teacher that did some certification/research work on the double stack frame that Alpha molds for Para...

Parts can be seen here....From the pics, I think they also do some work for Ruger and SIG

From previous posts by Johnone, Marstar deals directly with Norinco at very high levels and Marstar only brings in large orders (thousands?) of units from China. I cannot see Marstar selling something stamped "Bell Lifestyle.ca".

"Marstar has always done it's own work....
In the surplus market we deal directly with the governmment of the day, never agents, importers or whatever....
In China will deal way above the "marketing level"
All the rest is taken care of by our forwarders....
John"

well, we're halfway there- i'd still like to see a BAYONET LUG on these things or someone offer an aftermarket alternative- maybe a muzzelbrake/ bayonet lug combination and configured for the m7/m9 series- that would be ideal, but i'd still settle for an aftermarket m6

The standard American M14 Flash hider with an M6 compatible lug fits on the Norcs just fine once you cut/beat/grind the original Norc flash hider off. The trick is getting an American flish hider in Canada. Watch the EE.
