Hello guys
I'll be at CFSAC this year as a member of 4 CRPG - my first time.
I have a few questions on permitted modifications for the Lee Enfield Rifle.

First of all I have reviewed the 2009 rules which does make reference to prohibitted modifications - it is vague as it applies to the lee enfield rifle.

My Ranger rifle was at some point tweeked for competition by a CF armourer. This is no DCRA job. Barrel free floated, barrel bedding block installed, king screw was pillar bedded and dowels at the rear of the action to prevent lateral movement.

This is how the rifle was issued to me.

Will anyone make a deal over this?

ADDITIONALLY I would like to use my PH5C peep sight on my rifle however the rules specify that the rifle must be "As Issued" - and the PH5C doesn't seem to meet that criteria.

If would seem silly if the PH5C was a prohibitted device as I'm shooting a 60 year old rifle against against C7's with optics.

ONE LAST QUERIE
I have a like new No4Mk2 I would prefer to shoot because the bore gleams. However this is not a CF weapon, my personal property. Additionally the rules specify that Rangers may shoot the No4Mk1 rifle - it makes no reference to the No4Mk2 variant.

Do any CF personel shoot their personal rifles at CFSAC?
Below are pics of my Ranger Rifle from 2006.
I'm the chap on the right for the 500m run down.

Thanks for any feedback and advice you chaps might be able to offer.

Richard not sure how that will work for you, but I look forward to meeting you on the line in Sept! I am coming with the LFWA team. I do know that if the military is paying your way the will not let you shoot your personally owned rifle. See ya in Sept!!!!

PH5C is a no.

The ladder sight is what you have to use.

If the mods done conform to those found in the armourer's guide on the #4, then there shouldn't be a problem. (I have them around here someplace, but don't see the book just now to give you the ref)

As a note, while you are shooting against regular and reserve folks with C-7's, your primary competition is against other rangers, as there is an entire class and set of awards for them.

This answer makes sense to me (an uninvolved idle bystander). The principle of course is to not 'damage' Her Majesty's valuable property with unauthorized and unrecoverable modifications, in some unsportsmanlike attempt to gain a competitive advantage.

Only those changes properly promulaged in Technical Orders are acceptible. Gun plumbers are the only soldiers authorized to make small arms modifications, and they are held accountable. Funny enough, I was reading court martial transcripts on whether a Cpl had disobeyed a direct order to make some particular C7 modification or not.

The sight would be acceptible in Service Rifle B, but not SR A.

Knock'em down!

As I understand the No.4 Mk2 is an item of issue to the Canadian Rangers. I believe they were part of the "Irish contract" and have been purchased due to a shortage of
No.4 Mk1* s in the system.

Hello Riflechair,

Granted there are No 4 Mk 2s in the system, but I think the issue would be using a personal firearm vice an issue one and using non-issue sights.

I will consult with the CLS Canadian Ranger Training Staff Officer tomorrow and LFDTS OPI on CFSAC to get you some definitive answers. PM me and we can pursue this offline.

Coincidentally, today I was inspecting the new CFSAC Trophy we have developed that will be awarded to the top overall CRPG. Each member of the CRPG will also get a small plaque to commemorate their participation as a member of the winning group and every Canadian Ranger who attends CFSAC will receive the new ribboned medallion we have developed.

We will also be hosting a BBQ for all the Canadian Rangers too.

Maybe I'll see you on the podium !!

Good Luck.

4B1t,

Glad to hear there's some better recognition going to the Rangers this year.

I remember the old days when things were not so much the way they are now, and I was told they'd actually withhold the pay from the Rangers until they were basically getting on the plane to fly home so that they'd not drink it away.

Things have come a long way since those days, and last year it was VERY nice to see that every SR match had a Reg, Reserve, and Ranger winner called forward.

THAT is the kind of recognition that will help things get better.

Were you up in Ottawa in the mid 90's? Our team organized a couple of "Fire-power" demo evenings on Delta range for the Rangers, let them fire a belt of 5.56 in a C-9, a couple rounds from a C-3 and the C-7. They all seemed to rather enjoy it. There was one guy who was so excited that he was going to fire the C-9 that that the belt of link in his was was clacking his hands were shaking so much! (We had a dedicated RO literally standing almost on top of the guys as they fired the C-9...kept it safe, controlled, and FUN for all!)

The last famil shoot that I recall with Canadian Rangers was in the fall of 2007 when we held the TOCA ceremony of the CRPGs to CLS at Connaught. We did an exchange famil shoot pairing the visiting CRs with a local Reserve Unit. Everyone had a good time. As usual the CRs proved to be excellent (albeit excitable) shots with the C7/C9 and conversely the young Reservists had their eyes opened after touching off a few rounds of 303 !!

Cheers

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this.
Is there a social area where shooters can mingle?
I wondering how gunnutz will be able to recognize one another.
I'd recommend a rendezvous location, and timing just for gunnutz.

Rifle chair just look for the LFWA cube vans. We are bringing 2 of them for the reg and reserve teams. They will probably have regimental flags all over them. 3 VP, BCR, EME, and a few more. That is where Longshot, IMSHARKBAIT, gunlover, myself, diamondcutter 13, and a few more nutz will be when we are not shooting. Look forward to meeting ya on the line.

Keep an eye open for the MARLANT Flag too, myself and NavalSniper will be there (though I don't get on the ground until the 11th or so)

There is a social "mess" that's open in the evenings. A good spot to sit back and relax.
