Hey Guys,
I recently attended a gun show in Fredericton and and saw a Valtro shotgun for $800.00. I"m not sure what model it was, but I don't think it was a PM5. It may have been a PM3. I had never heard of this brand before, but I was pretty impressed with it. I left without buying it ,(friends were in a rush to leave), but did get the guy's phone number. I was wondering if anyone had any info on these shotguns and if that was a fair price. Any info would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks!

Down south of the border they are fetching up to $1500 us. As a note Valtro handguns were originally about $1200 and now range from $5000 all the way to $15000 (the highest I have heard of with lots of custom work by Mr. Jardine.)

As for the PM5 they are specifically made for Military and LE they are 100% designed for this role unlike 99% percent of other shotguns that were carried over from sporting roles.
They might not be the prettiest Italian shotgun but they were built for the battlefield.
I really like my Valtro's they always function perfect for me.
Mags are $$$ and wobble but A Little gunsmith informed me most likely they were design this way to help clear debris from the chamber and helps the round wiggle up the feed ramp without binding.

As a daily plinker and fun gun thier are better shottys for that role as the valtro are $$$ the grizz mag feed the new 870 express tactical looks like a good package

But for one serious STREET SWEEPER the PM5 with a 14" barrel and 7+1 of mag feed goodness equals on bad ass little shotty. There are few shotguns out their that can offer that much firepower with a 14" barrel.

Before you spend your $$ on a Valtro remember that there is no easy accessories for it and parts, you might have to wait for (they did not get the nickname "Trusty PM" from Americans for nothing they last) but like any thing if they break it might stay that way for a while.

Other shotguns in it's price range that are excellent are the 870P nuff said and the fabarms are pretty to.

Well I like mine, but I never get to shoot it. Really I've been shooting 870s so long that I keep forgetting about this one- THAT'S WHY IT'S FOR SALE. (yep, self promotion) The link is in my signature block.

It definitely has some things that other guns do not, and is built like a tank. Obviously you can only trust my opinion so much but the reviews from lots of people are in several threads if you search "valtro" in the shotgun section.

I own them for their future/current collector status with only I believe 200 of them in Canada and I think it was 700 to 900 in the States.
So as far are numbers go their is piss all Valtro's out there. And no more coming anytime soon. 75% of them were 20" barrels.

I own one and it's awkward to hold. I originally thought that the length of pull was the issue, but a fellow owner pointed out that the LOP is identical to a stock 870. Checked it out myself and he was right.
The culprit, it turns out, is the forend. It's a least 2-3" further forward than an 870. Therefore, while trying to hold the shotty up, your supporting hand is stretched out more than is comfy. And this was noticed by people like myself (5'6" - 5'9") as well as taller gentlemen. Very few stated that it wasn't an issue.

As well, my version has no orange bead up front, unlike canadiangunuser. Has the same identical front sight, but no bead. And my rear sight isn't anywhere near as sophisticated as his. Due to there being no orange bead, the shotgun shoots high from point of aim. I thought it was just mine, but supposedly there was a design change and they dropped the bead without compensating with the rear sight. Sad for an $800 gun.

If I wanted to buy one, I'd snap up canadiangunuser's shotty. He's got the improved sights and $200 worth of mags for the price of a newer and lesser equipped version

It was not a design change the importer decided to mount mossberg rear ghost rings and tried to match it with the stock front slug type sight. remove that cheap mossberg rear sight and use the front slug sight you wont be dissapointed . or get a rail mounted and stick on a red dot.

the forend is long but Valtro cycles extremely fast for a pump. internals are so simple the guns is beyond smooth Any Valtro owner will tell you that they are smooth.

Its a odd ball shotgun

Valtro

Out performs 870 for patterning due to vang choke design and wins all shotgun matches because of speed reloads with mags as opposed to tube fed.
Buy if u can -- whatever the price -
Trouble is - u need lots of mags -- cost more than the gun now for enough
Me lucky - early adopter --lottsa mags -
No not fer sale - I paid 60 bucks each for em ---;)

I didn't believe you, so I went out to check my front sight. You're right, the front sight on mine isn't identical to the one for sale by canadiangunuser.

Hmmm, Red Dot, you say...... :)

I do agree that it's a smooth action, though!

I have heard of Valtro's doing the shotgun course in half the time as tube feed shotty's but have no real first hand experience.

This little gems will only go up in price and the mags too.

$60 for mags is a wet dream now ,#### you are a lucky guy

the last shotgun course i seen came down to 2 Valtro shooters.... he who changed mag's faster won.

tube's cant match the speed of mag fed shotgun's

That's another thing I have an issue with. I make a mess outta inserting a mag quickly into this thing. You have to angle the front of the mag just so to be bale to get it into proper position before rotating the rear of the mag into place. If you don't, the mag ends up being lower than it's supposed to. Removing it to re-insert it properly is then a bear, as it ends up being jammed in there. I was seriously considering taking a Dremel to either than front metal piece that is held in place by the tab on the magwell or vice-versa.

Honestly, I like the Grizzly mag-fed better. I feel more comfy holding it in place (practically identical dimensions to an 870) and mag insertion is a no-brainer. Line it up with the magwell and slap into place. Now if I can just get the damned thing to cycle properly

I bought a box-mag grizzly as well. In retrospect, I think I would have been happier with a Valtro. AFAIK, Valtros are designed to cycle 3" shells - my Grizzly was designed to use only 2 3/4" shells (although I can sort of feed it 3 inchers, but it doesn't cycle them that well). Also the extra mag capacity that the Valtro offers would be nice too.

I regret selling my Valtro...the action was as smooth as butter, and the mag changes get easier with a little practice. The only thing I found was an issue like others have mentioned here is the LOP...found it to be a little long, but it is a kick ass shotgun. Wish I had kept it. When I have some $$$ I think I might pick up another.

I have one that's the same as Canadiangunuser's - red fiber optic front sight and ghost ring rear. Never realized there were so few around - glad I got extra mags :D when I bought it.

That's the same sight as mine...I have a picture of it on my desktop at work so I just confirmed.

I have 3 mags for mine and want to get 1 or 2 more. The last time I ordered them from Al Simmons in Hamilton and they took about 8 months to come in.

I find mag changes easy. The grizz does not even compare at all first thing its from China and it is a well stated fact that their metal manufacturing is a real mess. It's a great little blaster for fun.
Its a 870 design hacked up to be mag feed now if Remington came out with a mag feed that would be a different story,
Comparing the Valtro to the grizz well you cant it not even close.
One is a 100% tactical shotgun made for war the other is bastardized Chinese knock off.
Valtro's lack accessories that is my biggest problem. I really want a Benelli m4 that's a shotty

Calling it a bastardized knock off is a little harsh. Although they are not made of the same quality, they are not of same price structure as well. I think people compare them is because they are the only mag feds available in Canada. I'm not a big fan of the whole mag fed idea so I can not offer any insight.

Harsh but its true. they are a knock off (870 copy) and they are altered to feed from a mag.
For $350 they are good deal for a plinker and a good buy for someone looking for a mag feed shotty that wants to pimp the crap out of it.

Valtro's new in the states when they first came out were $399 10 years later $1250 to $1500.

Here is some good pics of a 14" Valtro
