Quad rail on AR

Hey there just a quick question.

I have got an 11.5" flat top upper with an A2 front sight and standard carbine hand guards. I want to put a quad rail on it. My two options from questar are the free float or the two piece.

I would rather go with the free float... how much work is involved to install it and what would I need to do to get it on? is it just worth getting the two piece?

there are a few specific tools required.
first, a nice punch to remove the front gas block.
carefully remove the gas tube as it is easily damaged.
you will need a barrel hold - usually aluminum, designed to fit in the jaws of a vice, and not to damage the barrel. Remove the breach nut from the upper receiver. You will need a special tool for this, otherwise you risk messing up the nut and that doesn't look to pretty.
the Kit you require can be purchased from Questar - UTG makes some $, and there are others $$$ - choose $ - $$ - $$$ that you like. They should all come with a fresh breach nut. The $$-$$$ will have very good instructions, and are very precise so as to when you are finished installing the nut, your quads sit at 12-3-6-9 respectively, an not 5 past the hour...lol
if you are going free float, consider... low profile gas block, and use extended hand guards, so as to be able to place your front flip up sight on your top rail. Or low profile 4 sided rail gas block, so you can fit a flip up sight there, and go with the appropriate length hand guards.
I think Yankee Hill Machine is also another parts mfg. that is good - but you'll get some great suggestions here in a bit.

the difference is huge vs's standard replaceable handguards that just slip right in... I feel many will agree. Then don't forget the benefit of going freefloat for your maintained accuracy...

The above post is way too complicated and pricey... Buy a free float Troy Rail and you can install it without doing any disassembly, all you gotta do is cut off your delta ring with a dremel tool, and it installs over top your barrel nut.... The model you will need will be the MRF-C and at $275 you cant go wrong, I also can vouch for the quality... Amazing rail... YOUR WELCOME haha...

+1 for the Troy rails, I'm running 2 right now. I've also got a 10" Mid-West industries free float....but I woudn't buy another one of those.

The other option is a Daniel Defense Omega rail, free floating 2 piece design that using the existing barrel nut, simple to install with NO additional tools to purchase.

If you have already removed the gb then take a look at their Lite rails, I really like the design, but it involves replacing the nut with a DD one (it is inlcude with the rail)

I did the exact thing with a Samson Star C from arms east. A great quad rail and great service.

I did exactly this and am very happy with it. Solid.

Do you really think their "firearm" line is an different than their airsoft line??

Functionality over name is a noble thought. UTG although functional is far from quality. A decent rail by MI, DD, Troy or any other reputable maker isn't overly expensive and will serve without fail. You get what you pay for.

Agreed, UTG is "made in china" cheap crap... save a little more and buy quality....
 
I also run MI and Troy for my BUIS and Aimpoint and Counter Sniper Optics. Say whatever you want, I'd rather spend the money on quality firearms and optics than a name in RIS, RAS et ####in cetera.

If it does the job, who cares who makes it? If you're willing to pay twice as much for KAC or DD over say MI or YHM, great.

UTG/Leapers/Guntek offer an affordable product to fill a niche market here in Canada and the US. Otherwise companies like Brownell's, Tapco, JSE, Midway, ad naseum wouldn't be selling the products.

Sure, I'd like to post some pics of my ARs sporting all the brand name stuff, but if I can outshoot someone who has a $3000 rifle with my miserable $1000 rifle, who wins:p
 
All the power to ya.... It's still cheap crap... I invested alot into my AR so bolting on airsoft spawned accesories to me, is not acceptable.... If you got a Norinco M4 or something like that then I could understand going the cheap route I guess.... but you ain't guna out shoot my $3000 rifle.. :p :p :p
 
Don't have a Norinco M4, my ARs are hand built and shoot MOA at 100. With my eyes, at the age of 60 that's about all I can expect. That is why I spend more on optics than on a rail platform on which to sit. If it's solid and remains so I'm happy.:)

As far as out shooting you goes, when I was 8 years old I was the most famous shooter in Kentucky. I actually shot the ####### out of a housefly at 300 yards during a tornado. Date: July 28th, 1957:p:p

All kidding aside, I'd love to get together for a shoot before I move back to the coast. I have a Remi 700 setup that you wouldn't believe.
