I saw this question posed on another forum and thought it would be interesting to bounce off the gun geeks here.

For me the answer depends on which guns we are talking about. For my target .22's (CZ's) I have two for mine and two for the wife's and that seems to work out fine.

For my AR I got 5 of those 10 shot jobs from the turkeys at Questar plus one that came with the gun for a total of six. That seems to work out fine but I kinda think I would like one or two more for some reason...maybe another two...???

For my HK pistol I only have four mags right now and will have to hassle the fellas at Wolverine to send me two more. Again...4 is enough for the out house turkey shooting I do but I would just feel better having six.

I have never buggered up a mag by dropping it but I can see it happening and having too many spares is prefereable to having too few.

How many do you have? Cripes, a fella can spend more money on mags and keeping these pigs fed than he does on the gun...!

Depends on the gun and the purpose for the gun. For me, I will always want more mags.:rockOn:

- AR = 18
- Swiss = 15
- Glock = 8

It's really quite sad when I do the math those mags can hold a combined total of 1156 rnds but in their neutered state only a mere 245!!

Embarrassing

Also...how many of you reload .223? The fella at the gun store looked at me like I had rocks in my head for doing it.

I never priced it out because I think in terms of precision rather than economics and I like those 77gr. Matchkings from Sierra. I have so much reloading supplies and junk that I would probably be horrified to tally up how much money I wasted on that crap...so I just don't think about it!

Is factory .223 that cheap? I have never even considered shooting it - and I suppose I should one of these days just to see what it does...

Angry how much do those mags for the Swiss cost?

I am still mad at those damned Germans at HK...those cretins are soaking me for 65 bucks for a pistol mag! I should quit guns and take up a cocaine habit because it would be cheaper...

I try to have at least 5 mags for each gun that I own just because.

Of couse that usually is a 'minimum' of 5. ;)

Wolverine has some less expensive 30/5 round mags available. $40 each i believe? Not cheap, just less than the SAN mags.

Those are Swiss Arms mags for my carbine. They are about $90 a piece for the real factory ones. Although CanAm has those Dominion Arms mags that are much cheaper and just as good. 2 of the 15 are Dominion Arms.

How long do you want to live after the zombies come?

The new zombies are fast, not like the old slow moving drunk ones.

Always prepare for fast zombies!

That's a nice collection of of SAN mags. Out of reach for many people, before CanAM bought theirs in at a reasonable price scheme.

For their next trick are they going to walk on water, or raise oneinchgroup from the dead? :D

I just got a 10 pack of the 5/30 Dominion Arms SAN mags(PC like original SAN) for my Black Special for $418. shipped from CanadaAmmo. So that make 13 all together.
1 - 5 rds.
2 - 5/20 rds.
10 - 5/30 rds.

And when Dominion Arms starts making the 5/20 mags, I will get at least another 8 of them, probably 10 as the 10 pack price is a great deal.

I set 5 Min for each FA

vz-12 mags
AR- 10x 5/30 rnd mags
AR - 2x 10 rnd pistol mags
M14- 14x 5/20 rnd mags
Sig226 - 10 mags
Para 1911- 10 mags
10/22 - 5x 25 rnd mags
S&W M&P9 5 mags
CZ75- 5 mags

I say get as many as you can! Remember mags wear out, and should be replaced due to use, combine this with the idea we could have these banned for import/export one day and have no way of replacing them.

I never use my mags to the point of wearing them out either, so I always by a few at a time. As my mags go through ammo, eventually i shelf them as a reserve, so basically they are always in great condition with little wear on them.

I let the pouches I plan on carrying determine how many mags to buy...

Since rifle magazine pouches usually hold 1, 2, 3, or 4 mags I like to have 9 - this way I can fill either 2 quad mag pouches, 3 tripple, or 4 double mag pouches. If I had to I could live with 6 since I have seen a few niffty customized mag pouches that held 6 magazines side by side in a row

For pistols I favor double or quad pouches, so I like to have 8 spare mags.

For bolt rifles with detachable mag systems I like to have 2 spares.

And I reload for .223 as well. Accuracy trumps cost in my books, but I find that even using all match grade components it is still cheaper to reload then buy bulk lots of factory ammo.

You can't go based off pouches. What happens when you run out of mags in the pouches?.....you need to be able to go to the back pack for more ;)

i just buy mags until im satisfied , which is rareley ever. 7 mags for my 226 seems enough for now, 8 5/20 m14 mags and im planing on buying another 12 10/30 lar mags and some p mags when i get the chance. its nice not having to reload after every two mags at the range

The only "black" rifle I own is a Beretta Storm CX-4 (re-barreled for the non-restricted "zombies" :D).

I casually buy them when I see them pop up at a good price. I think I'm up to seven (or is it eight?) mags now, and I still send SOLD messages when they pop up on the EE, and I'm broke. I should know better, but ten-rounders in my rifle are just so tempting.
