New Duck Blind - Theives/Vandals

My buddy and I have been building a new duck blind. We started in the spring while the ice was still on, and have been doing some work over the summer.
The blind is on the Rideau River in a small bay nestled in the cat tails.

The only way to get to our blind is by boat, OR, possibly trudge through 4-5' swampy bog....but it'd be a real pain in the a$$.
We built an 8x8 platform with the intentions of putting a partial roof over the back half. We put up 1x3 strapping all around and we're then going to run chicken wire around the whole thing so we could stuff it full of camoflauge.

WELL, I went out the other day to drop off the chicken wire, and some a$$hole(s) have stolen the plywood that was there, removed ALL the strapping and some 2x4 supports.

I was 4ucking shocked!!

There was no trail through the marsh, so I'm assuming the culprits came by boat.

Why people would steal the wood for any building purposes completely evades me. It's just too much work for the reward.

So, that leaves me with the possibility of bunny huggers or possibly territorial hunters....

All in all, it's just reassurance of the variety of 4uckin a**holes that live on this earth!!
 
I hunt on 600 acres of private land. Last year someone stole my pop-up ground blind. You can't imagine the vocabulary I used when talking about the event. Just hope that karma get the turds who do that stuff!
 
I don't know how to feel about this one. I'd say it was either theives (don't you know that anything that can be stolen will be?) or as you say (ironically) "territorial hunters". It's very irksome when a group thinks they can reserve a piece of public property months in advance, and some folks take to some midnight "justice" in response to that.

The Navigable Waters Protection Act, allows works to be built that impact with the public right of navigation, and in a sense protects that right as well. So the water may be Federally regulated in regards to navigation, the river/seabed is Provincial crown land, except in certain cases where the seabed may be grandfathered to someone. Also the common law right of navigation may not apply to a lake surrounded by a single property owner and having no navigable inlet or outlet. If you build a structure such as a dock or even a blind in navigable waters, you will likely be subject to several Federal Acts and also Provincial regulations. If I recall correctly, Alberta does not consider the bed of a waterway part of Crown land, not 100% sure on that. In some Provinces DFO will get involved, in others it will be the Ministry of Environment, in regards to fish and fish habitat.

Well, I kinda wondered about that, but then I thought why wouldn't they remove the whole thing? They left the platform and the main posts that go into the water.

Being that I haven't read through allll the acts, I'm sure there could be some legal stipulations, however.....there are a LOT of duckblinds on the river, which are left untouched. Also, the majority of these blinds are on the main part of the river. Ours is tucked back into a bay which can hardly be seen, and not even fishermen go in there as the water is only a couple feet deep.

We have full intentions of putting our names and contact info up on the blind, but were going to do that upon completion.... I guess may8be it should have been done sooner...

I'm going to call the MNR for some clarity.

I know that there are a lot of people who have cottages and homes on the river, and I'm sure a fair amount of them who don't like hunters or the sound of gunshots at 6am...

A few years ago I returned to a blind We'd been using for deer for years at the beginning of the season to find that someone(s) had used it on atleast 3 occasions as a latrine.......

years ago on land we had that had a river going through it. Guys put a blind on the river. So we called the ministry to have it removed. Since the river is federal they cannot do anything. So i doubt it was them. Likely someone who needed supplies for their own blind.

Last year in Northern Ontario anti hunters sawed our tree stands down & "spiked" the ATV trails leading to one of our hunting areas on a big clear cut with some buried pieces of "rip rap" having 6" spikes sticking out of them.

We moved to a different area & shot a cow moose & two calves & got no flattened tires since we always check our trails on the first recognizance trip to the stands on foot.
 
Posting your info as well as a note saying the blind is monitered by a trailcam stops thieves about 99% of the time as they don't want to be caught and are to lazy to look for the camera
