I'm not sure when my first grouse hunt will be, but I have a terrible decision to make - which guns have to stay behind? I'm leaning towards taking out this sweet little 44 year-old Spaniard, but who's to know until the day comes?

Take 'em all and switch around when you return to your vehicle. I always bring at least 2 in case of mechanical failure.
That semi 20 gauge would be good too.:)

Yep. The above double is a touch over 6 pounds, its 20 ga. cousin is about 5 & 3/4. I just haven't raised this one on a bird yet.

The most effective load I have ever used againt grouse is very low powered
100-110 grain 30-06 bullets, I always carry on me while big game hunting.

Otherwise I use hollow point .22 rimfire on grouse, which seems to work every time, compared when using solid .22 bullets, which sometimes does not dispatch the grouse, or make it run away after being hit.

Isnt shootin Grouse with a .22 just great fun... sometimes they'll let ya keep blasting with out even being conserned for their own safety even tho cousin tom is suffering from a head wound on the ground next to them and flopping around in an unusual way.... Oww look more gravel *BANG*

I use a over and under citori, I put a chamber mate 28 gauge tube in the top barrel. Now I have a 28 gauge first shot and a follow-up 12 for the second (if needed). The shot size in 28 gauge is 6 and 7-1/2 for 12 gauge.

28 guage is used because if I should mix the barrel the 28 will fall right threw not like the 16 or 20. I remember this from 40 years ago at my hunting safety course. Not to mention the 28 is a fantastic gauge to shoot and I have great success with this combo.
