To Orange or not to orange?

Now , i'm going to throw in a new variable . I wear my orange all the time , i don't have a problem with it. that said , here's your new variable .........Camo'd ground blinds ! I have 2 chair blinds , the double and single, i have the doghouse blind , and another great big ameristep thing , i think they call it the predator. anyway , they are ALL camo!!! so much for your blaze orange when you're sitting in there all nice and snug. what do you do ? I don't think this is a hijack, if you think it is , my apologies, i think it is relevant.

i put a some orange squares on the outside, keeps the roadhunters form slighing lead at me(sometimes.)

Hunter density is an important statistic as well for. I see alot of American stats on the Web about States & their hunters per sq. mile but can't find much on Canadian provinces. If I remember correctly it was one of the Atlantic provinces that had the most hunters per sq. mile about 15 years back .... can anyone find a link to recent stats?

Orange hat, blaze jacket, coveralls. Orange not required in Alberta either.

The deer don't see me as long as I stand still while people carrying firearms can see me in the background. I had bowhunters in camo within 50 yards that I could not see. Too scary, I could have shot in their direction even after doing a background search

Kind of reminds me of those heros who don't wear seatbelts. It only takes one time through the front windshield to be your last. Good luck you heros!;)

even while wearing a regulation orange hunting vest some local fudds decided it still would be a good idea to shoot diagonally across a road directly at my at my dad and beside me... I could hear the boom and wizz, and he could hear the slugs hitting the dirt by him...

Not the same at all.

If it worked (wearing orange) statistically then we would all be wearing it. I am pretty certain though that no matter what your garb. your chance of getting shot in the bush (miniscule) does'nt change unless you strap antlers to your head done a fur coat and make grunting sounds while walking stiff legged toward a hunter.

Choosing to wear orange when you are not regulated to kinda reinforces the sterotype that hunters are some sort of menance and danger that we need to be protected from them by sporting a magic color (likely picked randomly).

Odd how well Orange blends with fall foliage.

Do seat belts reinforce that there are bad drivers? That's just silly. If you can't see fluorescent orange in fall foilage, I'll be wearing flashing lights for guys like you.:p

The authentic optic orange is striking & obvious even in the most colorful days of autumn. Anything less than the required intensity & brightness of this regulation color & it starts to blend in a bit - agreed. I've seen many older vests/coats in the field that had been aged & yellowed by UV light & as a result doubt that they would ever pass a chart test if/when challenged.

Exactly,if it could be proven to save lives, provinces like Alberta would not have dropped the requirement. And guess what, accidental shootings did not suddenly increase when the requirement was dropped.

My dogs wearing their vests today.

That gives us a project. Developing a blaze orange with branches pattern ground blind. Animals will get used to it if you leave it set up for awhile.

Maybe a flag similar to what is used on a ATV attached to a camo ground blind?? It would be higher in the air and bright orange so others would notice you quicker?? Plus it would be good for wind direction indication.

It could even be placed 30 or so yards from your groundblind so it does not give the ground blind away???

I would like to see more blaze orange camo with the tree-type pattern.

Unless you go to Canadain Tire, all you see is the Camo stuff for sale. Canadian tire also has the nomal camo stuff...

In Ont., you are not permitted to wear blaze-camo...it must be solid blaze vest/coat with a min of ? square inches...and a blaze hat.
