I own and shoot a ruger 10/22 usually about 3-5 times a week and when I shoot it I usually bring some buds along and we go through about 200-500+ rounds a week EASILY. Now I buy my ammo from the local Canadian Tire as I can get the same vaule packs of ammo (525rounds) for $10 cheaper then my local gun store. I know with many centre fire rifles that once you find find a brand of ammo you like to shoot you should stick with it, is this the same with .22s? Currently I normally buy the Federal value pack.....525 rounds, hollow points, 36 grains for $20.00. latley tho they have not had them in stock so I have been buying Winchesters Xpert 22 hollows points...500 rounds, same grains for $20.00 as well. Canadian Tire also sells a few other types of ammo such as American Eagle and CCI mini mag but not in anything bigger then 50-100 rounds packs and CCI mini mag is a little expensive for the about and type of shooting I do which is just plinking all afternoon. They do carry a Remington golden bullet value pack of ammo of 500 rounds but for about $32.00. Is it worth it shoot the Remington or CCI ammo BUT I will be shooting less because of the higher price tag? Also if you know of any other good bulk .22 ammo for good prices please share.

I love the Fed 525 value packs. I had a buddy go to the Canadian Tire sports manager and ask to order 5000 rounds or so. He had to pay up front, got a slight deal and was happy. Try it out.

most stores will give you a "deal" if you buy caselot bulk in any ammo, in 22LR that is usually 5000 round cases
which looks like you would use about every 4-8 weeks so get your buds to buck up and buy lots....

Minimags are good... not the best you can get, but consistently good anyway. but if you're just out plinkin and burnin' up ammo save the money and stick with the bulk packs like you've been doing.

As someone else mentioned, ask the dept. manager at the CT store if you can get any kind of price break on a case, check with any place that sells ammo near you, most places will do at least 10% off a case

i was unable to make a deal a banadian tire, they were not nice people though. i LOVE the fed 525 packs, for my gun there tack drivers, and there clean and cheap too

i also love the federal 525 pack, the copper dip is nice. when you touch the bullets to load them your hands dont get covered in lead.

yea thats what sucks about the winchester value packs....and the federal ones give you 25 more rounds for the same price lol

any walmart outside of toronto carries ammo;
i just picked up 4 boxes of 500 winchester dynapoints (40 grain, copper plated) for 22.60a box from the parry sound walmart and they had plenty in stock

Winchester XPert ammo used to be the worst kind to shoot with my 597. Lots of fail to feed and fail to eject. But after I put a few hundred rounds of different ammo through it and bought an aftermarket extractor, Xpert is by far the best-shooting and most reliable bulk ammo with my 597. It's also one of the cheapest at like $17/500 at Lebaron.

walmart? sell ammo? in canada?

You bet...Wal-Mart, Candian Tire sell ammo and Home Hardware carries Winchester brand ammo. They do not carry pistol ammo unless its a .22 pistol. I donno why lots of people freak out about this (not saying you are!), they must think little Billy can buy his transformer toys then buy some ammo for his AK47 that we bought at school or some bs!
