Love the BHP. I have a T2### series Inglis and have no problems with it. Maintain it and use good mags with decent ammo (it is an autoloader) and you will have no problems. The BHP has about the best double stacked, 9mm grip in the world and with my Hogue Monogrip I find it is even better, even with my small hands. You will not regret it.
As opposed to the new ones which are Made in Belgium (assembled in Portugal) - there's nothing wrong with the Portugese guns, but they don't have the same blueing, the little machined collar where the barrel goes through the slide and the fine polish levels on the internals. The pure Belgian made ones from the 60's and 70's are sort of the Cadillac of Hi Powers. They were made before they decided they needed to cut production costs. You can spend a few hundred more on a brand new one, and end up with less quality.
Mine was assembled in Portugal, and I agree, there's nothing wrong with it. So if the 1970s-exclusively-Belgian-manufactured ones are better, and it's in the condition described, you should be well pleased.
If concealed carry were allowed, my blued steel with walnut grips Hi-Power would be the pistol I carried when wearing a suit and tie.

A must have for any collector. Buy it, shoot it, if you don't want it later, sell it. You can't go wrong!
The $700 is probably taking into account the change in the dollar from then to now. Don't worry about it. The price is good considering the condition and the extra mags (that have been modified to 10 rounds right

It should not be hard to sell.Those who say the BHP was junk while they were in the service don't take into account the ammo it was fed on a regular bases. The ammo came in 64 rd boxes , these were put out for the Sten gun with the 2x 32 round mags. Hotter SMG ammo will beat the guts out of any pistol. For a BHP to be able to take this for all these years and keep going is a testiment to the design and durability of this pistol. Some other weapons out there had warranty warnings against firing IVI 9mm ie HK MP5 and Sig 226 due to the excessive wear on the parts. If you fire normal SAMMI spec ammo you will be fine and the pistol will last a life time. This is a good deal! Just pin the 13 rd mags.
The real mistake would be passing on this one. If you're stuck with factory ammo, you can afford to shoot it more. You can always get a 1911 later.

I saw the HP Today , It's 99% new , one small scratch on the slide near the r release probly from take it down.
Like some of you guys said the double stack Mag make it a large grip pistol, much wider then my 22/45 or any other real 1911 I tried.
I have medium small hands, it felt a bit big in my hand specially the upper portion , my hand could not wrap the grip like I use to on a 1911 or a CZ 75
It was not unconfortable but different, Different enough to make me doubt.
I have to try one before I spend $700. On a 1911 I wouldnt even asked myself that question , but I now know what a double stack magazine is all about.

I bought a browning 9mm today. Was almost haft the price of my girlfriend uncle BHP , so I thought I would give it a try. Now lets see if it will take another to weeks for my transport licence.

I'd go for a 1911 with aprox same budget
problem is as far as 9mm go a made in belgium bhp is as good as it gets. the most popular military handgun ever. if you spend 6oo or 700 dollars on a 1911 you might have a hard time getting as much gun, imo

Thats a great looking Browning!That black slip on grip doesnt do it any justice though,the Browning doesnt really need them anyway.For thate price you paid,thats a good deal.I find it strange that I cant see any serial numbers on the gun though,has the picture been photoshopped?
