Hey guys, quick question about my sx3. it seems to have problems shooting
2.75" ammo either it doesn't eject the shell or the empty shell gets jammed up in the bolt on the way out, what is wrong, any suggestions?

the reason it is having troubles with the 2 3/4 , is that the spring is not broke in enough the cleanly eject the shells. pick your self up some cheap number2 or 4 shot run a couple boxes of that through it and she should have no problem.

I have been able to shoot light 1 oz 2 3/4" right out of the box with mine (Mossy oak duckblind SX3 3 1/2" 28") I have probably put close to 500 or more shells through it and the first 200 being trap loads.

Never once have I had a jam or short shuck on my bolt.

Did you take it right apart and degrease and get the packing grease off of the gun (rust proofing) when you brought it home?

Just pull the forend off and spray some blaster in the gas chamber re lube and try again.

should of bought a beretta...numnuttz

lol......i do own a beretta mod. 301 20g and which "tacticaldan" loves to use
that thing cycles anything i put through it :p
Thats why i'm asking the questions about the Winchester SX3, I love the sx3,feels great, its light, and hurts shoulders with 3 1/2's

Somebody "Tactical guy" mentioned about DRAM?

yes i did open it up when i switched the safety to the lefty side,
i did not "degrease" but i did wipe all the internals all the way in and up the magazine tube to get rid of the factory lube.
i use a piece of cut up old cotton sock and moisten it not humid, is that ok or should i use one of those "pump" spray bottle gunlube to really get all the internals lubed up?

Go to Canadian tire and get a can of Outers Crud Cutter and OUTSIDE or in garage with open door because it really smells for a while. Spray that all in the actions it will take the packing grease off and then using aerosol gun oil, which is a must so you get into the deepest parts, oil it up and then give it a good wiping to get the excess oil off. You should then be good to go. Shooting some 2 3/4 3 dram loads couldn't hurt either they should cycle quite reliably and will help wear her in a bit.

Have fun.

Heh, when you are hunting with 3 1/2's you shouldn't even feel them due to your energy burst. I shoot 3 1/2" federals most when hunting and honestly can not tell the difference between that and the 3" loads.

The only 3 1/2" load that hurt after 3 shots was when I was patterning Winchester Turkey loads. Ouch I'd say you want to be about 250-300 lbs to shoot those lol.

As far as a Beretta Extrema 2 goes... I have heard far more feed issues related to them by far. In fact this is the first time I have heard of any problems with an SX3.

what kind of ammo are you shooting? Mine eats everything reliably

i use 2 3/4 Winchester #8, 2 3/4DRAM, and i noticed on the shells its marked light load.

Could somebody please explain the differences between the DRAM ratings and what are the min and max available on the market ?

Even the manual says that you shouldn't use light loads. It's not going to cycle reliably. And it is true. (I tried it because my wife uses the gun mainly and she is petite and doesn't like the recoil)

DRAM EQUIVALENT is old-speak as if you were shooting black powder. It's a way to compare the powder charge behind the shot, nothing more.

you should have better luck after the couple of boxes of hunting loads, that was the manuals suggested break in procedure for my SBE II

3.5 inch and high flyers, talk about fun, not to mention bragging rights

well i returned the light loads and got some Winchester 2 3\4" heavy loads still the same problem, but something funny happened, i found some Federal 2 3\4", 7 1\2shot shells that i found in my ammo bag that my buddy left behind, passed about 20 of them and they cycled perfectly.....WTF!!!

First off, take it apart and clean it. If you are unsure about the process, find someone in the know. Check for burrs/irregularities on any moving parts.

Source some "handicap" or "supersport" target shells.

Buy a flat and run them through at the local range.

Stay away from 2 3/4 dram shells. Shoot 3 dram (heavy trap) as a minimum.

You might want to stay away from the winchester promotional (cheap) loads too. They use a very soft plastic and every once in a while you might notice "bell mouthed" cases from the crimping process. I have had issues with these feeding in my Extrema2.
Stay away from the Federal shells too - they are dirty and will require you clean your shotgun more often.
Stick to Remington's Gun Club or Kent's Gamebore for lower priced shells.

IMHO.
