Well as the title says I got to go on my first moose hunt this week this hunt took place in Newfoundland. After three days of not seeing much outher than cows and one 6 or 8 point on my way to the gas station one night. We were walking in over a cut over when we spoted a cow a calve and this 16 point bull as we walking over a little hill so I layed down ranged him (245yrds) adjusted my scope up 1 MOA and sent a 300gr smk backed by 92grs of h1000his way out of my 338Edge I had built this summer. Like I said this is the first time I have ever been moose hunting and I couldent be more happy I figured id be lucky if I got a 4 point but lucky for me a 16 pointer found its way into my scope. I know this is close range for the rifle I was using but I have to say a moose is one strong aniamal I turned the heart into jello and most of the lungs were damaged too and he stayed on his feet for about 10 seconds befor falling. But anyways I though you might like to hear my story and see a couple pictures

Referring to the points on a moose rack....is that a newfie thing??
I've never heard anybody in Ontario speak about the points it is usually the size/width maybe i'm just hanging with the wrong crowd!

Nice moose by the way, and nice rig...

Yup..I believe it's a good ol' newfie thing...We count the points..as well as the spread..(some of us who are more into the trophy prospect, regard both points and spread).. In reality..if you went and shot a 50 inch bull here in newfoundland..and you told a large number of people that .."I shot a 50 inch bull"...they probably wouldn't know what you were talkin about..

On the other hand.." I shot a 23 point bull"...everyone would know..lol:D..

Thats us newfies...lol..
