Well, my Diamondblack Alaskan arrived yesterday from Clay at Prophet River. My purchase of this rifle from Clay was a wonderful experience. :)

First off all, I went to P&D this morning and bought a box of 300 grain Hornady factory round point loads for $73.50. I had mounted a Leupold Compact 3-9X scope last night, so I headed to the range. :)

What an amazing feeling rifle! :)

It has a significant kick, but not as bad as I expected. It seems to be milder than my past Winchester model 70 in .375 H&H and that one was MagnaPorted.

Unfortunately, by the time I "got around to" this particular rifle (seven new-to-me guns to shoot today ) I only had time to fire five rounds. They clustered into a snug little group at 50 yards...the only range I had available today. I'll be back soon with target pics and results of my first handloads... :)

For now, here are pics of the first Diamondblack Alaskan I've seen so far. I really like the subdued look of the matte finish...

Here is a .375 Ruger cartridge next to a .22 short... :D

Hey Jeff, I told you that you would love this rifle! I personally haven't shot the 300gr's yet, but I would imagine they have a bit of jump. All you need in the future is that matte finish scope to complete that "Stealth" factor. Gun looks great, I am kinda liking that matte finish myself.:) I am sure that this gun will serve you well for many years to come.

Really nice rifle! I did shot mine and yes the recoil is really not as bad has I expected even with 300 grainers. Enjoy it!

How would the recoil of this rifle compare to say a standard Remington 870 shotgun shooting a 3" slug? Would the felt recoil be anywhere near similar or is the .375 Ruger at a different level all together? I am just trying to get a feel for what the recoil would be from a gun like this.

Regards,

Chizzy

Chizzy, if you shot both from prone, you would prefer the .375, particularly if you are referring to 12 ga 3" Federals.

Interesting to see Ruger's rendition of dangerous game sights:

Just when you thought something couldn't get any beefier... That rear mount's proportioned like an ##### temple. Those ain't gonna move just 'cause they got smacked against a doorjamb.
