Sorry need help on rules and regulations for these in Canada.
I am looking at a replica cannon (to buy) and use as a strictly salute firing (no ball or projectile) it is muzzle loading and uses fuse for ignition.
I have seen them in stores as miniature scale salute cannons.
What exactly is the law on owning and firing one of these in Canada?
Anybody?
 
Tagged for interest... I always wondered about those scale model ones, they say they're operable, but I can't imagine shooting a 50 cal projectile out of a 8 inch barrel. How far back do those cannons roll?

A full size??? now that would be the ultimate in home protection for SHTF

under cc84 3, signal devices are not considered firearms. Cannons are also not considered to be handguns based on barrel length, because they are not designed to be shot by one hand. Most also qualify as matchlocks and therefore antiques under cc84 1(b) and SOR98-464
In reply to Sniper, recoil is a question of how heavy the cannon is and how much powder. There is enough variation in barrel weight in particular, that there is not a simple answer.

Thank you for this information, that is sort of the rumor I heard but wanted to be sure and BTW there are plenty of these around of all sizes and clubs also (but most in the US)

If you fire it too close to houses, you would probably be charged with disturbing the peace or similar plus have a large crowd of admirers with black suits and machine guns. As with any gun, you have to ask yourself who can hear it and what will the result be. It is not just a question of is it legal to shoot in this location but additionally is it common and/or expected to hear gunfire in this location?

Treat it as a firearm please. Getting too much attention by firing it just anywhere will only bring unwanted regulations by the lawmakers.:(

My neighbor made a pipe cannon that shot glass marbles with a little black powder. His brother got the idea...little more powder and use steel bearings. Put it against the wall and lit the fuse. The cannon blew up, broke the window in the house. Found the barrel in the house with the bearing still in the barrel!

By all means get a full scale !! lol. If you can carry it , you can hunt.:D

I fired my 23 inch long, 1 inch bore cannon 1000s of times with FFFg and FFFFg powder without any incedents. Projectiles used 100 grains and reports used 150 to 200.
If you are worried about the wrong grain size you can do the following. Dump some in a glass bowl, wet it and grind it up into a toothpaste like consistency. Smear it out about 1/16 of an inch thick onto a piece of tin foil. Let it dry. Crumble it up. Voila, cannon grade sized powder.
 
Ok dumb question but local supplier says he has fffg in stock but no ffg.... so do I risk explosion and buy fffg ? I have been told it creates higher pressures and IDK???

any idea?
