Nikon Opinions ????

im curious about nikon too. they make great cameras , and I see some of their scopes are pretty inexpensive . on par pricewise with bushnells.
 
I have 3 Nikons , a 5-20 Monarch on my 204, a Buckmaster 4.5-14 on my 22 K Hornet and a Pro Staff 3-9 on my Savage 250.
These scope represent 3 price points from Nikon and I have nothing bad to say about any of them. I'd say value for the money that they are amongst the best their is.
Some folks think that the older pieces are better than the brand new merchandise, mine were all bought 2nd hand.

hi i have the 6x18x40 and i love it the optics are extreamly clear and the scope is very well made the only complaint i have is the sun shade is not made to follow the lines of the scope but that is just me get one and i assure you wont be dissapointed...Dan
 
I know this isn’t the Nikon line you were asking for but I had the Nikon Gold and this scope was outstanding for low light conditions. It was also a very solid scope as well...
 
I tried a couple, and actually found that for MY eyes, they worked very well at the longer magnifications ie 14x.

I tried some other "non-brand name scopes" as well around that time, and had to send a couple of them back, as they went blurry when zoomed out to max range. I shouldn't say "they" went blurry - everyone's eyes are different, and those 2 scopes just didn't work for me.

But the Nikons did, and I still have one of the Monarch UCC models. One small complaint... it is a BDC model, and the bullet drop circles tend to get in the way of a good sight picture.
 
I started out with a 4.5-14 on a hunting/distance rig - awesome value for the money.

Good glass is good glass - if it works in a camera why wouldn't it work on a scope?
 
Seems nobody follows the obvious logic. Nikon is one of the predominant camera makers which is directly related to the quality of its optics. So why the surprise that they might make a good scope?? Consider that Leupold is a tiny company compared to Nikon so just imagine the quality of lens grinding equipment you would see in a Nikon lens factory. Leupold could likely learn a bunch from Nikon and would like it to be a well kept secret. I have a Pentax spotting scope that was half the price of an equivalent Leupy and it is nicer to use. Absolutely no problem with either for optics. Then again I have had both Nikon and Pentax cameras so I was already in the loop. Jap optics are nothing to laugh about and they dont make mistakes. Safe purchase as far as I go. Keeping my Leupy VXIII but I wish I had known about the Nikons before I dropped the cash.
 
I have used Nikon Buckmasters when they first came out and they are a great value. Mechanicals and optics are very good. Great low light and very clear.

All nikons tend to have a narrow perceived field of view as compared to Elite 4200's.

I am now using Sightron and their new gen of scopes. These I feel offer the best value in optics today. Amazing glass and mechanicals for alot less then top brands. Eye relief is massive.

For the price, the buckmaster and Elite 3200's are great buys.

Leupold has outsourced their lenses for decades.

Nikon here as well, very pleased. Nikon started as and still is the company making lenses.
That's what they are best at.

I like my Nikon scopes, but I'm thinking that the glass they are using in rifle scopes isn't from the plant in Japan. My older box says made in the Phillipines, and another box had made in Malaysia on it. FS
 
Couple of Nikons:
4-12x 40mm Monarch - BRIGHT! and very good resolution - favorite Nikon.
6-18x 40mm Buck Master side focus - works well, no issues - comes with hood and target turrets.
6-24x 50mm Monarch - worked well - till the turrets popped off... 2 weeks later had replacement (and was a newer model) all good since.
8-32x 50mm ED Monarch - not shoot with them yet but looking through seem like happy scopes.

Think need to spend about 30% more to get better (and wont make me a better shooter so am sticking to Nikon)

Mine is also made in Phillipines, so what? As long as equipment, tolerances and quality control is in place, workforce cares what they do - the final product will be of high quality. And Philippines makes STI Spartans too, I bought one, happy with it. They also make lenses for DSLR cameras in Thailand and glass quality and workmanship is pretty much as good as Japanese.
