"one holer" rifle

An example of a 1-holer, Doug;

I am always learning new things, and indeed that is one of the reasons I have enjoyed Gun Nutz. Especially before all of the less experienced folks joined up who want to add their opinions to everything......

So I see somebody has listed a Sako rifle in the EE which is described as a "one-holer." The seller has not apparently shot the rifle, based on the description provided in that ad.

When I was a lad, somebody talking about a "one-holer" was describing an outdoor toilet with only one seat, as opposed to a "two-holer," which of course had two. Often a two-holer had a small hole for kids and a large hole for adults.

I would have thought that a person describing a firearm as a "one-holer" would be alluding to the accuracy of that firearm. But if he or she has not shot the firearm, then that hypothesis appears to be incorrect. It also seems unlikely that the firearm is to be confused with a toilet, although perhaps the suggestion is that accuracy is really not very good.

So maybe there is a new term out there of which I am unaware, and "one-holer" means something entirely different. Please add to my education here, folks.

Doug, In the boondocks where I grew up they were called either a one banger or a two banger!
And the one room country schools had two single bangers. Let's see, maybe you could refer to that as a double banger!

I think it means that once, sometime in the distant past, a group shot actually was small enough for all the shots to touch one another, resulting in a single irregular hole with the center missing. Closest I have ever come to a "one-hole", three shot group out of a production rifle is with my M700 Classic in 300 Savage. A handload with the 150 Partition and a healthy dose of Reloder 15. The group C to C measurement is .040" Only happened once, even though I have shot some pretty decent other groups with this rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

A one holer is right up there with tack driver or shoots out lights. Many people use those silly expressions, but how many have actually done those things with a gun?

And is it not DELIGHTFUL to see a thread that has so far been enjoyed in the sense which was intended! :D

Thanks for the smiles, folks! And a few laugh-out-loud guffaws too!

Well, here is our hunt camp one-holer, named HMCS Glorious. The "S" in this case does not stand for "ship" but rather "s**tter."

The brass plaque will be affixed in a simple ceremony next year.

Whoops! Sorry that file is so big, and I have no idea how to make it smaller....

Note the Dutch Door, so if you'd like to take in the view whilst seated you can open the top half of the door. Serious engineering work went into this one-holer.

Hayya Doug,
Nice job on the Sh!tter.
Eye see the double decker has the hinges on the opposite side.
Is there a right and wrong way to place the hinges?
Just wondering????????

Gee, you easterners sure live in luxury.
Out west we wade around in snow up to our,--no, away deeper than that.
