Hey everyone - lets have a vote to see what Shooting Discipline is the most popular of the Canadian Gun Nutz Nation!

Give some reasons why you think your favorite is best!

Feel free to have a little fun with it.

So, which is it?

* Trap (singles)
* Doubles
* Skeet
* Sporting
* Five Stand
* Olympic
* Dosen't Matter how the lil'orange disk is thrown - I just what to blow it out of the sky!

You have ambiguous choices in there;
Trapshooting (Singles)
Doubles
Skeet
Sporting
Olympic
I eat Clay targets for breakfast! (All of the above)

I'll start with skeet as I know a little more about that. You have American (NSSA) Skeet and then there is International (Olympic Skeet).

Doubles is actually an event in NSSA Skeet as well.

You could separate Sporting into the many sub-disciplines (sporting, 5-stand, FITASC, etc...)

I don't know too much about trap, but you've got your American (ATA) Trap, International (Olympic trap). Doubles is one of the ATA events (along with 16 yard and handicap). I think international trap uses a bunker... but I'm really not sure.

I love all clay target shooting but my fave I would have to say is trap doubles when we can get enough shooters for a squad. I just love the rythm of a good squad and no other clay target discipline I have ever shot lets you go through 50 rounds as quick as a round of doubles, LOL. Plus I like trap for its silent concentration, there is plenty of time for shooting the breeze in the clubhouse afterwards, not out on the line.:cool:

Sporting clays. More variety in presentations. Requires more thought and planning and is always interesting.

I don't have the mental focus for skeet or trap. Once I start getting bored I start missing targets. :redface:

Wow, initially when I put the poll together I thought to myself that the Skeet shooters were going to win this poll, but seems that Sporting Clays is leading the pack.
I understand the reasoning behind why Sporting is popular - Targets are thrown in infinite patters, hights, coming, going, fly bys... I can't speak from experience because my club doesn't really have a nice Sporting set-up, but I would think the frequency of shoting (the time it takes to call the next target or station) is not fast enough for me... again, cant speak from experience cause I'm a Trapshooter to the bone. It does sound like alot of fun though. In my research, Oshawa looks like it has the best Sporting set-up in the GTA. Don't know if there is any truth to that - never been.

And yeah bmcrae, your right, I should have been more descriptive on the "Doubles"... I could have listed that option as "Doubles Trap", but I think that description could also be used for the Olympic Bunker. Anyway, exact definitions were not my concern. Just thought it would be fun to see what kind of fans of Clay we have here at CGN.

I like Skeet, its a close 3rd to Trap Singles, and Doubles. I will probably get a skeet gun, but only shoot it for fun. Someone once told me, "Skeet is hard to learn, but easy to master." ;}

I was going to list "5 Stand", but I didn't because I have tried it and it was fun the first round... after that seem to loose its excitement for me. Anyone else care to comment on "5 Stand"?

Hope to see more CGN'ers placing there votes. CA'MAN TRAPSHOOTERS!

Many days at a couple of the Clubs I shoot at, the 5 Stand sees a lot more activity than either Sporting or the Trap or Skeet fields. (Maybe 'cause it's a little "damp" and the 5- Stand Fields have a roof over them ? )

I likely shoot more 5-Stand than Sporting lately, but enjoy them both, and the challenge of a few rounds of FITASC as well... but FITASC layouts are few and far between. If you're not actively competing, about the best to hope for is a layout that hasn't been changed for a week or two after a big shoot. International Skeet will keep you on your toes, as will bunker Trap (especially Olympic Double Trap ! ) ... but again, the facilities are not readily available to most. Uxbridge Shooting Sports keeps an International Skeet field working and Toronto International has the only bunker I'm aware of in these parts.

ATA Trap (singles, handicap and doubles) / NSSA Skeet (including Doubles, in all 4 gauges) are otherwise, fine games ... and I enjoy shooting them all.

Given unlimited time, resources and the facilities, I'd likely shoot more Olympic Trap than anything.

I shot competitive trap for years and you are exactly right that there is nothing better than a squad with great rythem. Some will argue you can't consistantly shoot a GREAT score with out it.

You tried International skeet yet?

We had an International field at Strathcona, humbling to say the least. FS
Yup, Intl. skeet , doubles skeet, NSSA skeet.
if it's skeet , I've shot it since 1966!:D
Don't shoot registered birds these days however, use it as a training aid for hunting.
I only shoot sub gauge as well, don't shoot the big gun anymore.....
