i wanted a benelli mr1 but too bad it's restricted

so does anyone have comment to make about their favourite ones or add new models to the list
thanks

So based on that description and our gun laws, you ARENT looking for an assault rifle since we cant own them. An assault rifle has to be select fire, large capacity mags and shoot an intermediate cartrige.
This being said, based on what you have described, I would recommend an Armalite Ar-180b. Accepts Ar mags, non-restricted, looks very close to a real AR, .223 and should only run you about 1200$ or so. Discontinued about a year ago I think, but still show up oon the EE often.

You're in the wrong forum friend, I believe you're looking for the Black and Green subforum.

Also, you've pretty much listed all of the non-restricted ones that are available. Since you're looking an "assault rifle", which aren't actually legal, I'll assume you just want that much sought after "tactical" look (please don't say it's because you just finished playing Call of Duty :p ), the CZ858 is probably the only one thats actually available in your parameters.

The T-97 is currently sitting in some warehouses awaiting reclassification from the RCMP, so you're SOL for those. Mini-14/30s are not really considered modern military firearms imo.

You're best bet would be an AR of some sort, but those aren't cheap either (and they are restricted). So I would suggest either getting a 10/22 and modding it up some, or a CZ858. An AR-180b is a little above your price range, but it is non-restricted.

Your price range and non-restricted preference sort of limits your options for a tacticool and military-style rifle.

You know, when I was in the infantry, the C-7 was never referred to as an assault rifle. It was just referred to as the rifle. I suspect most soldiers, and former soldiers in any army with select fire rifles would likely express similar recollections. "Assault Rifle" has always seemed to me to be something that civvies, especially opponents have used to pigeon hole the rifles. I just wish the the OKW had not designated the Gw 44 the Sturmgewher to appease Hitler. Then this whole mess would not be with us.

Cheap is expensive. Do not waste your money on cheap crap that won't satisfy you.

Save up for an XCR.

By 57 posts I would expect a newb to have it down.

a Rifle is a rifle is a rifle. You can't define it by how you use it. If you are looking to assault "things" with a rifle, you might want to wander elsewhere. Perhaps you meant to say you were looking for a semi-automatic rifle with tactical accessories?

While I agree with the responses you got above I would encourage you to open your mind to the "old school" semi autos that are all non restricted and very fun to shoot.
The M1 Garand, SVT 40 and AG42 are all great guns and can be accurate too. You already have a couple of newer style rifles, why not take a look at the ancestors to what you already have to make your collection a little more interesting?

yep i think the first 2 guys who replied already made that clear enough that i wasn't looking for an assault rifle or i would be in the wrong place.
but thanks for the insult by the way. and since we're in the ''main battle
rifle'' tread. can you define a battle rifle for me please. i am just such a newb that i dont know.
thanks

Here's a pretty good list of what's available currently:

I definitely recommend the AR-180B if you are able to find one. Try posting an ad in the EE. Here's some ideas of what can be done to them:

still free. for every 5 good pieces of advice you will get from this crowd, there will be one piece of trash talk. it is un-avoidable. someone had a bad day, in a mood, wife just found out they spent 4 grand on a rifle....i myself have posted the "trash post", its all part of the game here! take the good flush the bad =)

the mr1 aka "RX4 STORM" has a 16 inch barrel. no one that i have found in canada has them yet. the importer is waiting for the longer barrels for non restricted status.
