.22LR Shortage?

Hey guys, I heard from my PAL instructor that there's a .22LR shortage here in Ontario, I was wondering if this is just a rumour or if it's true? I was planning on buying .22LR rifle as my first firearm, but if there's a shortage on ammunition then I may go for something else.

According to my instructor, Bass Pro Shop was already sold out and it looks like LeBaron won't have much left for much longer.

If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. Thanks!

No shortage of ammo as a whole, certain brands and value pack might be harder to find. I wouldn't call that a shortage. 22 ammo is still available everywhere.

Get a 22 for your first firearm: cheap and fun to shoot - you can get tons of practice for just a few bucks. Have fun and shoot safe.

Costs a lot more, IMO.

50% more here compared to 8 months ago, in Vancouver BC.

If 22 ammo goes up much more, it will not be cheap plinking for me anymore.

I'll be shooting air guns instead.

The C.T. near me use to have 5 different brands of .22 ammo constantly in the show case. Now it's only 2
TSC use to carry 3 different types, now they only carry 1.

I disagree with you. With the rise in ammo costs, 223, 308 etc, I have been shooting much more 22LR to keep the costs down and still get out to the range. Many people are doing the same thing.

There's a fair bit of it on the shelves around here. $20/500 for American Eagle, $21.99 /525 Federals.

22 bucks for 525 rounds.. used to be 16 o well it will keep going up but I can always get it when I want..

This seems to be the case in southern Ontario.......but I do know that Bass Pro here sells out of .22 LR realy, really quickly....

Still plenty of places in the USA where it is hard to come buy, same with primers. A number of treads and posts on Rimfire Central with this information. FS

My supplier has told me .22LR in cases "going down in price in 2010." Thank the U.S. dollar for that.

Offset your cost by buying in bulk. Try to get group buys on 10,000 or more from a dealer to get the price down. Quantity purchases always reduce the price by at least 10% typically. Get five guys to commit to 5250 rounds a piece. That's only 10 cases or $219.90 or 50 cases total. That's enough for a year of shooting at 40 weeks per year at 132 rounds per outing per person. If you save 10% that's 5250 extra rounds or 1050 free rounds per buyer.
